Are tradition and modernization incompatible as the speaker contends? I strongly disagree with the speaker and I think everyone has already lived in a society with a mixture of tradition and modernization. One can hardly distinguish them, let along choose between them.

As a matter of fact, the tradition and modernization have never been apart with each other. We may call one particular thing is a tradition, while how we actually do with it is in a modern way. A case in point is the traditional festivals. Spring Festival is the widest celebrated festival in some Asian countries such as China, Vietnam and Singapore. People gather to celebrate the coming of a new year in lunar calendar and to enjoy the time with their family members. The tradition to celebrate this festival has continued for thousands of years while the activities people do during this festival has been achieved in a modern way. In the past, people may hold parties in several small groups and give performances. Today, as the rapid improvements in technology, everybody can stay at home watching television of the largest and highest level of Spring Festival Party with all the famous artists. We are using a modern way to cherish a tradition. They are indeed not incompatible in this case.

Tradition, a series of actions or opinions based on the local culture, has been introduced generation after generation. The reason why people like to keep a tradition in mind is, such as human nature, to cherish the quintessence of the ancient culture. For example, some of pop music in China, which is highly appreciated today for their absorbing melodies of the Peking Opera, the quintessence of the country's ancient culture, has earn its own market. It is because of the tradition elements, which recall a deep culture love among its people.

Modernization, however, is a trend towards future. People try their best to conquer the world and make life easier in the contemporary society. As the improvement of the society, we are sitting in a train from today's modernization to future's modernization. It is the pace of society advancement, one can only follow it.

If one, as the speaker assumes, must choose between tradition and modernization, he or she may probably not be able to survive. If he or she choose tradition, which means that he or she has to abandon modernization, may have to move out of his or her apartment since this building was built in a modern way and too convenient for one to use the facilities inside. If choosing modernization, which indicates that he or she cannot accept any tradition actions, may play computer games on modern wars along at Christmas eve, since he or she has chosen modernization.

To sum up, it is ridiculous to ask one choose between tradition and modernization, the situations which interact on people's daily lives. People should be taught to keep their traditions from the precursors, while use their modern way to live with them.
