the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic
techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering
patients.

To support the conclusion, the arguer points out the evidence that three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist. In addition, the arguer reasons that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. At first glance, the arguer’s assumption seems to be accepted, while clearly exam the arguer’s assumption, we may find that it is unconvincing, vague, oversimplified, and unwarranted. The argument contains several facets that are questionable.

In the first place, one major flaw that weakens the logic of this argument is that arguer does not provide enough information on the subject of the statistics. The arguer does not indicate when and who makes the survey about three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist. If the dentists responded only stand for a tiny proportion of the whole groups, we should not be so sure about the conclusion. Maybe they have a wrong view to men. In the meantime, the “three times” that statistics collected is also unconvincing. Everyone knows the number of men is more than women in many Asian countries because of the traditional view, so there is a great probability that man visit the dentist. Therefore, facing such limited evidence, the conclusion is unwarranted.

In addition, the arguer makes an oversimplified analogy that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. In most instances, this is unwarranted assumption for the simple reason that things rarely remain the same over extended periods of time. As we know, many factors should be taken into the consideration. For example, many women do not visit the doctor because they are afraid of nervous and suffering. If more women visit the dentist than men they do not need put more attention on men. This is a fallacious reasoning unless the arguer can provide persuasive evidences to rule out any other possibilities.

On all accounts, the conclusion reached in this argument is lacking of credibility so that it is not persuasive at it stands. Regardless of who the arguer is, he or she has overlooked or chosen to ignore many aspects of his or her conclusion. To strengthen the argument, we would need more informants about statistics collecting from dentists. Additionally, the arguer should provide more evidence about the above-mentioned possibilities and to rule out other possible cause.
