Although the speaker asserts a standpoint that people should think and act independently and make their own choices, few would dispute that most of us, no matter concede it or not, are imitate some role models in order to not deviate from the established routines. To follow others’ examples is usually the easiest way to achieve a common goal; however, to make a most successful professional career, any existing example is trustless; one should find his/her own way.

We must admit that in most part of our life, imitation plays a crucial role. When a child first comes to this world, the most fundamentally nature is to imitate. By imitating from the adult, the children learn how to act appropriately. And at the schools and universities, we learn the knowledge left by predecessors; we follow the experiments which have been done for thousand times to train our operation skills. From imitation, we gain sufficient knowledge before we actually face the problems. Children with autism don’t have this ability of imitation, so it is hard to teach them how to imitate the teachers. Lacking such abilities, one cannot adopt the society.

When someone first get into the job field, to follow the examples of successful people is necessary. Every achievement can be described as several steps, to imitate other people; one can accelerate his/her process of success in the professional career. By analyzing either successful or failed cases, one gain experiences and avoid from making mistakes. Also, one can save a lot of time for accumulating experiences. Another apt example is sportsman; it is well-known that the most common way to make improvement is to imitate the top athletes. If one want to imitate a successful ski-athlete, he/she should observe carefully first, how does the athletes move when turn around, how to keep balance and so on, by imagining the gesture in one’s mind, one can gain the knowledge of a unknown field. Even facing a strange area, as long as there is appropriate mode, one can follow the mode and make a achievement in a much shorter time than expected.

When it comes to the field of art or business, such suggestion is not appropriate. It is true that a new student of art should imitate the works of masters. However, imitation is only the way to get experiences and skills. Only by one’s own observation can a student of art express his/her own emotion or feeling and become a real artist. To make a most successful professional career, there is no example to follow. Take Bill Gates into account, he found the chance and designed the first familiar operation system called Microsoft. Chance only comes once; the story of people who seized the opportunity cannot be repeated anymore.  

In conclusion, imitation is the nature of human-beings; from which we learn knowledge and living skills. When we need to achieve a goal in a further lay, creativity is a necessary spirit. There is a close relationship between imitation and innovation, which we can not separate. The target of learning and imitation is the precondition of the innovation and revolution, and the innovation will lead to learning and copying more effectively.
