"No field of study can advance significantly unless outsiders bring their knowledge and experience to that field of study."

Should one field of study advance significantly basing on outsiders, as the author allege? The author claim so, for the reason that different field of study can bring their knowledge and experience. In a sense, I tend to concede that isolation results in stagnation. However, I do not completely side with this statement because the author claims the view by overlooking the crucial rule of another issue and unfairly give them a second priority. In my point of view, a field of study also can advance significantly by themselves. An all-side consideration is needed when deciding the precedence.
First of all, it is always necessary for some different fields to work together for the purpose of advancing a certain study’s development. As interconnected fields experience mutual growth and prosperity, modern studies require further collaboration for continued progress and success. One simple example will serve to illustrate this point as fellow. Without supporting advances in calculus, the field of economics would never have seen the booming growth of its last 20 years. Mathematics helped convert economics from a qualitative, speculative to a quantitative, definitive one.
Nevertheless, if one wants to make great contributions to a certain field, the first and most important thing is to master all its foundational knowledge but not the knowledge of another field. To illustrate this point clearly, we can see Leonardo da Vinci. He was an Italian Renaissance architect, musician, anatomist, inventor, engineer, sculptor, geometer, and painter. Though he always abandoned (放弃?) his study of another field, but he applied one's mind to painting. (though & but不能在一个句子里面同时使用)So people who live after he almost just know that Leonardo is famous for his masterly paintings, such as the Last Supper and Mona Lisa because. Thus, if a person wants to success in one field, he or she should be absorbed in the foundational knowledge of this field firstly.
In addition, absorbing other fields’ knowledge mean obtaining potential effect for a certain field’s research. Sometimes people overstate the function of other fields’ knowledge and experiences. After all, outsiders distract researchers’ attention from their own fields. Even in some cases, the theory or practice of other fields will severely affect the original study’s normal research. People always waste too much time on other fields which are independent of research because they do not know which field is helpful for their research.
To sum up, I fundamentally disagree with the author’s conclusion that the success of one field must depend on other fields. In fact, outsiders are also bringing disadvantage.
观点清晰,例子也不错。
