Are scandals useful in focus our attention on important problems, as the statement suggests? I agree that in some cases, they can call out attention to some severe problems that the country or society should solve as soon as possible. But in other cases, scandals may distract our attention from more important issues.
In the first place, scandals can draw our attention to some neglected issues, which, if not dealt with probably, may lead to some harmful results. Perhaps the paradigmatic modern example is the NBA judge scandal. NBA is very popular among the whole world. Not only Americans, but also countries' people ? like this game. However, recently a judge of the NBA was accused for gambling in the game and controlling the results of many games. It is hard to imagine that in the most perfect game of the world there also exists unjust phenomenon. What else can we believe个人觉得这句不要比较好,让人觉得说得有点武断 This scandal has called the highest attention in America, which must be taken seriously. Surely, no public speaker or reformer could have called a nation's collective attention to the NBA judge unless the scandals had surfaced.
Simply put, if without the scandal, the judge may still control the game, which will result in that the final champion may be unjust and will change many players destiny in their career in NBA. Moreover, it may disappoint the fans and thus make them no longer like the game.
In the second place, scandals may sometimes serve chiefly to drive us from more important matters. For example, some famous people who have done great to our society may have some scandals. The famous sex scandal of former president of Bill Clinton is a case in point. Although Clinton is guilty in morality, the scandal is only the privacy of the former president. Compared to his great feat to America, it seems inappreciable. A famous ideologist said:" Nobody can make no mistakes in his life." So to evaluate the president, we should not be misleaded by the scandal.
In sum, I agree that sometimes without scandals, we can not flag socio-political problems more effectively by speakers or reformers. However, whether the scandals serve more benefit than harm to a community or society must be determined variously in certain cases.
