In this statement, the speaker claims that a global university should be supported by all nations. And this university could be used to engage students in the process of solving the world’s most persistent problems. I basically agree with the speaker that all nations should support the development of a global university.

To begin with, the solving of many problems needs the cooperation between many countries. Only depend on the power of one country, some problems could not be solved. Genetic engineering is a good case to point. Scientists from many countries get together to research genome. This research is called human genome project, HGP. Many scientists from America, China, Germany, France, England and Japan join in this project. The rapid development of humanity’s ability to control the gene will make many aspects of human life better, including saving lives. It can help people to cure diseases at the DNA level, and some diseases like AIDS may end. But with out the cooperation between countries, the genetic engineering may not succeed. There are many other problems like pollution, crime need the cooperation of the whole humankind.

Furthermore, the cooperation and dependence between countries becomes more and more. This is a trend that the relations between countries become much closer than before. The financial crash of 1987 and the Asia Economic Crisis in 1998 demonstrate that the world’s capital markets are more closely integrated than before. The events of one part of the world may be switched to the other parts of the world. The influence between the countries becomes more and more. A thing happened in America may have influence in many other countries. This trend calls for the cooperation of the whole world. And to some extent, a global university is necessary.

Nevertheless, there are still some problems about this kind of global university. On the one hand, the difference between countries may cause some difficult and problems. People may hold their own moral standard and customs. This may cause some different during the communication. For example, a same joke, American may feel so interesting, but Chinese may feel so boring. On the other hand, people may consider firstly about the profit of their own country. People may not consider from the profit of the whole humankind but from their own country. Sometime this view may lead to some vicious result, like cheat and copy other’s results. So, we should notice these problems during develop a global university.

To sum up, it is necessary to build a global university to solve the world's most persistent social problems. But we also should take into account possible difficult and hinder.
