TOPIC: ISSUE221 - "The chief benefit of the study of history is to break down the illusion that people in one period of time are significantly different from people who lived at any other time in history."

In such an era that is rapidly changing both scientifically and technologically, many people again pick on history as their purpose of researches, they found that the main benefit of studying history is to break down the misunderstanding that people in some periods of time are different from people in any other time of history. However, although people living in different eras have sameness according to the study of history, learning the differences among people is equally important and beneficial, and studying history carries other benefits as well.

It is true that no matter living in enatic society or shuttling between skyscrapers, people have the same nature: to be successful in life. People struggle for achieving accomplishments from cradle to grave. Simply put, kids always want to hear praises from teachers in school, while adults always want to be promoted or paid more from their bosses. Someone might claim that not everyone’s main living purpose is to succeed in life. However, if it is so, then why people combated with each other in order to be the emperor in ancient times, and why books connected with “how to be a success” have always been best-selling?   

However, while learning commonness of people has profound meanings, acquainting oneself with the differences of people is also beneficial. As people in different ages differ from various areas, such as morals, customs and values. Hence acknowledging these assists people in understanding and appreciating the significant differences between peoples of those times. For example, people from ancient times have a drastically different idea of home as we do. When we consider home as a private place where we can lay the sense of security, whereas ancient people have to fight against enemies---not only human beings, but also wild animals---to protect their families and homeland. Therefore, staring back at the traces of human, people can earn a lot in realizing those different ideals.

Conceding studying history is rewarding in eliminating the illusion, the study is also instructive in other aspects. Getting familiar with the mistakes of past times makes us learn the lessons from history, and try our best to avoid repeating them. For instance, the world wars brought about a huge number of casualties and left the world in everlasting grief. Afterward, many laws and regulations of prohibiting wars were instituted, therefore the theme of peace has been repeated and advocated until now. Listening to the stories of giants in history is also an effective way to inspire people better themselves. How Condoleezza Rice has been striving for reaching the goals regardless of racism is an encouraging example aptly illustrated the spirit of hard-work and confidence.

Consequently, history teaches people that the basic human nature has not changed, and it helps people understand, encourage and be more tolerant of one another, and people can benefit from the different values in history. Yet, history is indispensable to other perspectives as well, it directs people go ahead properly and enlighten the spirits of individuals.

总体感觉，有的地方语言感觉不太准确，另外要注意前后两句的关系，使用连词前要想好表达的什么样的关系。
论点虽然明确，但是例证显得不足。可以练习一下从你的例子往回推，看看能不能推出你的论点。
