Do tradition and modernization are so incompatible that one must make a selection between them, as the statement contends? Although some modernization activities has difference-even contradiction to some extent-with tradition, I can not believe that all of modernizing measures and activities can not exist compatibility with traditions. What modernization really brings to us is to eliminate or supersede some outdate and wrong traditions while some effective and vital traditions in our everyday life still play their good roles together with modern ideas to contribute to the development of the society and human being.

Admittedly, some modern ideas are incompatible or even contradictory with traditions. This is because these traditions are either erroneous or inapplicable from the present view, which impede no only personal improvement but also development of society. For example, women's roles, which are considered as only doing homework and foster children conventionally, have changed for such traditional views of women are discriminations to females which is wrong known by every one now. With the development of social modernization and advancement in science and technology, more and more women go out from home to work in companies and industries, which become the same labor pool as important as that of men.  Only by abolishing such traditions towards women's roles in society and seeing them from modern ideas and views can their status in our society be improved and their personal values be realized?

However, some traditions are still functioning together with modern ideas and views without any incompatibility or contradiction. Such traditions are always former by interaction of culture and history, which are so deeply rooted in people' minds that any modern activity can not replace their vital and useful roles in people's life. Spring Festival in China and Christmas Day in western country are cases in this point. Both of these two traditional festivals are still important activities as ceremonies in people's life. More over, people now adopt modern measures to employ their happiness to their family members and friends, such as sending emails to convey their benediction to their friends or communicating with their families in remove places with messages sent by mobile phones, which show tradition and modernization are consummately combined together to make people's life comfortable and happy.

What's more, people should not pay too much focus on modernization though it brings much convenience into our everyday lives. Some important traditions of good qualities such as honesty, probity and so forth are still important factors that affect people's life and work. Therefore, such traditions can not be superseded by so called modern ideas. More over, people should also prevent traditional and historical buildings from being destructed and even toppled by city's modernization. These old buildings though may have little practical use in modern society, have historical and aesthetic values. Some of them are even great works of our precursors, such as Great Wall, Summer Palace and so forth. Destructing such traditional buildings may have large costs which can not be afforded by any nation and government. By doing so, lost is not only our works of ancestors but also opportunities of our generations to appreciate and evaluate them.

Above all, some traditions are outdate and wrong which cause them to be incompatible with modernization while some traditions and modern ideas can work together to make people's life happier and more comfortable. But To some important traditions, we should protect them from disappearing with social modernization's development.
