The editorial recommends points out that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months. To support this claim the editorial cites the following facts. (1) a recent survey of video-game players suggests that the most important feature of video game is lifelike graphics. (2) Whilwind has just introduced several such games. Carefully examinition of the facts, nevertheless, reveals that none of them lend credible support to the claim.

The argument provides no evidence to prove that this survey is statictically siginificant and the repondents is representitive of the population. I was not informed the features of the respondents, such as gender, age, education background, etc. Lacking such evidence, it is entirely possible that there exsit a siginificant deviation between the ages of the repondents and those of the advertising target population, which range from ten to twenty-five years old. besides, I was not informed how and when this survey conducted. without clear evidence, it is quite possible that the survey was conducted during rush hour, when the repondents do not have the inclination to answer the questions patiently. the effectiveness of the survey is weaken unless such possibilities had been ruled out.

) W9 D" \7 K  f; t4 ~0 KAnother flaw is that the argument fails to estabilish the causal relationship between the feature of lifelike graphics and the sales of the video-game products. the argument ignore that other factors might contribute to the selling of the products. For example, perhaps lots of tenegeer perfer the scene of the game to the graphics quality. that is to say, there is no gurantee that the products would be sold out, although the feature of lifelike graphics in this vedio-game is well-presented.

Z( B1 w' e' ], {2 X. jFuthermore, even assuming that the video-game with high quality lifelike graphics is selling well, the argument provides no evidence to gurantee that the sales of Whirlwind vidio games are likely to increase, considering the competitors in the same market. Lack such facts to effectively prove that Whirlwind video game company owns a obvious advantage such as patent to gurantee the potential sales, it is equally possible that the customers choose to purchase the product of other company instead of Whirlwind.

In sum, the editorial's author cannot justify his or her claim on the basis of the scant evidence provided in the editorial. to bolster the claim the author must provide clear evidence: (1) the Whirland company diminish the factors that lead to the decrease of the sales of Whirlwind video-game. (2) the customer perfer the Whirland's products, compared with others'.
