TOPIC: ARGUMENT188 - A new report suggests that men and women experience pain very differently from one another, and that doctors should consider these differences when prescribing pain medications. When researchers administered the same dosage of kappa opioids-a painkiller-to 28 men and 20 women who were having their wisdom teeth extracted, the women reported feeling much less pain than the men, and the easing of pain lasted considerably longer in women. This research suggests that kappa opioids should be prescribed for women whenever pain medication is required, whereas men should be given other kinds of pain medication. In addition, researchers should reevaluate the effects of all medications on men versus women.

The author demonstrates that doctors should consider the difference between women and men when prescribing pain ,medications. To support his recommendation, the author cites several factors : (1)the researchers administers the same dosage of kapa opioids-a -painkiller-to 28 men and 20 women who are having their wisdom teeth extracted, and the women reports feeling much less pain than the men and the easing of pain lasted considerably longer in women;(2) researches have no need to reevaluate the effects of all medications on men versus women. However, find this argument suffers from some logical flaws.
To begin with, the researchers administers the same dosage of kapa opioids-a -painkiller-to 28 men and 20 women who are having their wisdom teeth extracted, and the women reports feeling much less pain than the men and the easing of pain lasted considerably longer in women. According to this, the author concludes that the kappa opioids should be prescribed for women whenever pain medication id required, whereas men should be given other kinds of pain medication. However, commen sense tells us there may be other reasons. First, the amount of men and women is not equal, and women are less, so it is entirely possible that the men are more to report ;secondly, maybe the women can suffer more pain than those men. It does not mean they suffer less than men; Thirdly , no evidence suggested that every women feels less pain than men. Without ruling out these factors , the author can not convincing me that that the kappa opioids should be prescribed for women whenever pain medication id required, whereas men should be given other kinds of pain medication.
Moreover, even the report is convincing , researches have no need to reevaluate the effects of all medications on men versus women..Because this process might last for a long time and cost for much money. What’s more ,it is not necessary.
To sum up, this argument appears unpersuasive as it stands. To bolster it the author must exhibit that the women feels much less pain than the men than the easing of pain lasted considerably linger in women-perhaps by a reliable survey .In addition, the author should provide direct evidence that researches have to reevaluate the effects of all medications on men versus women. |
