Movies and televisions have more positive or negative effects on young people’s behaviors.
When talking about whether movies and televisions shape youths positively or negatively, my opinion is that, their harm outweighs good. Supporters of TV education may contend that these programs provide children vividly and easily understanding ways of learning which may arouse their interests. However, these are merely a small part of specialized educational programs, more often than not, children are surrounded with those meaningless soap operas and cartoons, which not only waste their time, harm their health, but also mislead their ideology.
Firstly, indulging in television programs may waste children’s time that should be occupied with study or exercise. Last time in my family party, my aunt said she went to see her son’s teacher several days ago and been told that her boy’s summer vocation assignment was terrible. I was kind of surprised since last time when I went to see my little nephew, he was so “industriously” working on his homework. I was even more shocked when I was told that the reason is my nephew spent almost his whole vocation on cartoon programs and when he realized vocation is going to over and his exercise books were still blanket, he worked on it day after night without any careful considerations but to finish it.
Secondly, watching TV may also contribute to young people’s health problems. On the one hand, eyes, especially children’s tender eyes, would easily be damaged when exposed to the radiation of lights from TV set. Moreover, because of their youngness, lacking sufficient knowledge in how to protect their eyes, children seldom rest their eyes in a scientific intervals. Thus, many of them were caught by myopia in an early age. On the other hand, being attracted in TV programs, children would unwilling to go outside to do exercises that would be necessary to their health, instead, they leisurely leaning in sofa, eating junk food. All these resulted in many diseases, such as over-weight, physical weakness and etc.
A third crime TV programs or movies play is misleading. Since children are still young, lack of sufficient judging ability, they have no idea about either what is good and what is evil, or what is imaginative and what is real; but imitate. They follow the ways of behaviors and speaking as heroes and heroines in the act. Two examples will illustrate this point clearly. One is young crime, there is a statistic report in England shows that over 80% young criminals are following what they saw from TV programs and they thought it is cool or awesome to be a bandit. Another tragedy is one 16 year-old child jumped down from a skyscraper since he though this would arouse his internal tremendous potential to fly like Spiderman.
While movies and television programs gave us a great deal of happiness, relaxation, latest news, they also brought about negative influences, especially to young people, such as wasting time, unhealthy lifestyle and illusive ideology. Not until a clear idea of TV’s pros and cons formed in our mind, can we effective take advantage of this modern technology.
