关于Tinbergen Institute的一点点情况

咨询主要是靠干中学，上经济学博士真的没有意义。进咨询最好是工作几年申请mba，或者去lbs, hec这种专门的商学院性质的大学，来荷兰的话，申请鹿特丹大学的erim或者rsm的硕士博士均可（eirm的mphil有少量免学费，申请难度和ti免学费差不多），ti真的不对口，ti之前的director of graduate studies也明确说，想学会计，管理科学或者市场学的不推荐来，因为属于interest mismatch。

补充一点ti phd今年的情况，关于那个拿到厦大的台湾师兄，最新的消息是他估计会从上财，另外有一个很厉害的台湾师姐，拿到韩国某大学或研究所的offer，工资14万刀一年。

额，其实我现在就在HEC, Montreal. 交换一个学期。感觉商学院的氛围果然是不一样。可是经济的phd在咨询行业没有吸引力么，感觉所学的知识挺相关的。

补充一个ti在搬家的消息，最新的位置是和duisenberg school of finance一起去amsterdam zuid的金融区，这对拿到ti-dsf mphil finance的人应该算好消息。

Please find below a press release that Tinbergen Institute and Duisenberg School of Finance will join forces with a twofold aim: (i) to develop a high level MPhil and PhD programme for students; and (ii) to strengthen the Dutch financial research capability and make a commitment to attract international top researchers to the Netherlands.
Let me sketch the development of this process of joining forces with DSF briefly and indicate what TI expects from it in the future.
The international peer review committee (the Jorgenson committee) advised TI in its report in 2005 to expand in a particular research area and seek outside funding. The field of international and financial markets was chosen since in this field the TI faculties have a strong tradition and a spin-off is available for fellows in the fields of “econometrics” and “institutions and decision analysis”.
So far, an MPhil track in Finance is set up in 2008 and we expect the first group of students to graduate this year and start with a PhD at the TI participating universities. As a next step we expect in cooperation with DSF to attract more internationally recognized scholars and challenging research seminars.
The board of Tinbergen Institute indicated to the directors that also the TI research groups that are not directly involved in this process should profit from this by an increased possibility of more funding for workshops, seminars and guests.
As a practical consequence of the more intense cooperation in Graduate training and research with DSF, Tinbergen Institute will move together with DSF to the Symphony building at the Zuid-as at the end of 2010. We are independent but close to VU ( 10 minutes walk) and UvA ( 20 minutes by tram) and right in the financial district and also good connections for international visitors and even shorter travelling time to Rotterdam.

Duisenberg school of finance and Tinbergen Institute announce partnership
Strengthened financial research capability in the Netherlands

Amsterdam, March 5, 2010 – Duisenberg school of finance and Tinbergen Institute today formalize their cooperation. Over the last period both organizations already collaborated closely through their combined research master (MPhil) and PhD programme in Finance. By joining forces going forward, the institutes strengthen the Dutch financial research capability and commit to attracting international top researchers to the Netherlands. To underline their commitment, the institutions will both move to the financial hart of the Netherlands, the Zuidas, in December.
“Together with Duisenberg school of finance we will offer eight PhD or research master positions a year,” says Professor Herman van Dijk, General Director of Tinbergen Institute. “By joining forces we are keen to attract top global financial researchers and invite them to the Netherlands. Furthermore we will invite high profile speakers of renowned universities such as Harvard, Wharton School of Finance and Columbia and from organizations such as IMF, ECB and the Federal Reserve Board in Washington to hold lectures on key policy themes.”
The objective of the two institutions is to strengthen the financial research capacity in the Netherlands to bridge theory and practice and meet the needs of the country, as can be read in a report published by OECD last week. This report states that research conducted by institutions for higher education in the Amsterdam region does not fully meet business needs, causing innovation in the Netherlands to stay behind in comparison to other countries. Duisenberg school of finance was mentioned in the report as one of the few exceptions of organizations that do work closely together with business.
Professor Dirk Schoenmaker, Dean at Duisenberg school of finance stressed that: “Duisenberg school of finance closely collaborates with financial institutions and universities. Our aim is to educate well-rounded financial professionals. Academic education and research, personal development and practical experience in business are imperative in achieving this. Lastly, Duisenberg school of finance is keen to actively contribute to the policy debate on the future of the financial sector.”

要说一点没有那是不可能的，但相比而言，特别是用读的时间平均一下，单位时间的贡献比mba和管理的phd小多了。其实有点奇怪你为啥这么迷咨询，如果只是钱的角度，和ti商量换个mphil finance将来进银行和投行不是很好么。

另外补充一下就业薪情的国际差异，中国基本是投行〉〉咨询〉商行=会计，投行排第一在其他国家也是稳定的，但我听说新加坡基本是会计〉咨询=商行，而荷兰可能基本是商行〉会计〉咨询。其中主要原因是中国咨询少，但都是国际化的咨询，所以拿国际pay，但在其他很多国家，咨询比会计更本地化，不会当地语言基本不能干，能干拿的也不是国际pay。

econ mphil的确可以转finance phd，但由于funding system不一样，很多finance的导师现在都明确说prefer finance mphil。

其实我最感兴趣的是experimental/behavioral economics领域，PS也是写的这个方面，但是不知道这个方向出来是不是只能是搞研究了。但是我又是比较功利的人，希望工作能是在金融机构，或者是一些分析类性质的工作（非学校）。。。另外IO也比较感兴趣，但是这个似乎不是TI的强项？所以对一些选择感到比较迷茫。。
PS，TI的选择日期能不能和她推迟啊，发信了也没回。

ti的io不算差可也比不了tilburg，toulouse那么强。

behavioral economics目前的毕业生还没有去业界的，因为确实没有相关性。兴趣和功利一般不能两全，你要自己想清楚。

此行为非彼行为，行为有做实验的，也有做实证的，其实通常说的行为大部分都是作实验的，做实证金融的如果带有行为色彩的就业非常好，但一般idea超级难找，data超级难搞。
