询问Stockholm U的一些情况

Stockholm和IIES是什么关系？我在看Stockholm U的faculty的时候怎么觉得很多人都找不到。。。比如Torsten Persson什么的。。。怎么在faculty里就不见了。。。
谁能介绍下Stockholm的大牛啊～

SU里面是否有大牛我还真不太了解，但是IIES里面的牛人就很多了。IIES不单独招生，要选里面老师做导师必须首先申请SU的经济系，所以 SU是进入IIES的必要条件。

SU有，不过是它的IIES，在第三；Nationalekonomiska institutionen，在第7；另外还有个SOFI，在第10；不过这些机构和SU是什么关系啊？
如果申请SU的research master，能碰到IIES的这些大牛么？

呵呵，我只会用ideas，但对更多的关于瑞典的事，就不知道了。

我觉得research master上课会遇到大牛的，但想一起做研究，应该非要读phd不可。

IIES是SU和SSE合办的经济/金融/商科博士项目，IIES不招学生，所以需要申请SU或者SSE。

1. The Stockholm doctoral program is co-organized by Econ department of SU, IIES and SSE. They have different strength. Econ department focuses on labor and applied econometrics. IIES is an excellent place for those interested in political economics (Torsten Persson as you mentioned) and macro (Per Krusell, for example). SSE's strength lies in game theory (Jörgen Weibull), behabioral economics) and microeconomics theory. (Well, Lars Ljungqvist is in Macro though.)

2. The relationship between IIES and SU is a bit like CCER and PKU...

3. The website of IIES is www.iies.su.se, where you can find the faculty information. You can apply to IIES after finishing the first two years.

4. SSE is a private school and the salary is higher than SU:) Actually as far as I know, it is higher than the offers from the top schools in the States...However, SSE has never admitted any Asian student (except one Asian graduated from Austria...)! But you can still transfer to this school if you are really a fan of it given that you perform well enough after coming to Stockholm. (As you know, everything depends on the acedemic ability.)

5. As to job placement, I have nothing to say due to individual heterogeneity.

All in all, this doctoral program offers decent courses and it is a good place for your consideration if you are interested in political economics, macro, game theory and labor. Unfortunately you may suffer some disadvantage if you want to find a job in universities in China due to information asymmetry...

A bit on the non-academic side

THE GOOD
The Swedes are very nice people, gentle, quiet yet very helpful. Stockholm is a beautiful city.

THE BAD
Language is a problem, as in many non-english speaking cities. And doctoral student don't have much time to learn Swedish. The day lenght may also be a problem to some people: less than 4 hours in the winter and more than 18 hours in the summer...
It is an international city, but still far from the internationality in Paris, London or Newyork.

THE UGLY
Everything is expensive. You will feel you are rich wherever else you visit (not to Norway or Denmark, of course). Food is a headache. Besides the high price, you don't have much to choose from, especially in winter.

上次ENTER开会的时候碰到从SSE和SU过来的中国博士生，怎么我记得当时听他们说SU的中国学生不多（因为本身PhD总数很少），反之SSE很多呢？

另外，还有一个因素ls没有提到的，就是冷！不过Stockholm总比Tilburg/Bonn/Mainheim/Leuven这些地方来得城市很多吧。

不会吧，据我去当地了解情况和网上资料，SSE的博士里面应该没有中国人，SU有。到硕士项目倒是SSE有很多中国人。
