TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."

Education, as a key that decides the civilization of human society, is never a outmoded topic even after arguing for thousands of years. When retrospecting the history of human beings, the nautical college of Prince Henrique shows how a small nation like Portugal became a world superpower in 16 century, the introduction of western science presents how a once lag-behind nation as Japan find its way out of poverty. Currently, the most concerned issue related is how to educate students most effectively while i believe the individual interest plays a vital role.

What is the function of education? Enlighten our youngsters with mathematic thus help them innovate in different engineering areas while civilize them with Philosophy thus help them explore the truth beyond the external phenomena, moreover, introduce them with the arts thus encourage them to appreciate even creative painting, music and sculptures.

Additionally, our education system should always focus on their interest area to best utilize their talents in certain area. If we force those with gifts in arts while most of them, if not all, are poor in calculus to study engineering or force those with talents in computer programs to write poems can we expect them to achieve as great as in the field they are interested in? In that regard, how could our society suppose move forward quickly as we are doing now? How could we say we are in a new era that respects the identities and personalities of individuals as we are claim at the moment? Why would we keep educating next generation while it is ineffective?

Admittedly, some basic programs of education are necessary even some students may find boring.  The society do not expect the artist to creative a computer program but the basic knowledge of using certain software, the Photoshop or Words can also contributing to their art works. The computer engineers are not supposed to write poem but appreciate while enjoying them. We are also learning history, geography and anthology even if we are not interested in. Actually, the knowledge help us to get to know more about the world from different perspective, and build us as rational persons.

However, do all these ineffective when educate students the basic knowledge? At the moment, yes. But there is no excuse for no action but keep the process of just educating knowledge. The problems lie how could we make them interest in certain areas in certain extent instead of forcing them just studying. It is both the matter of education method, facilities and how do we encourage them to learn. Once we dig the beauty of arts and the surprising function of computers to those less talented they would starts to appreciate and learn the basic skill. Through we do not expect them to be the professionals, it helps them and the society evolving process as well.

In sum, it is the individual value system that motive one to learn, but it is the society value system that motives our education system to teach. We respect the characteristic of different person and provide them with the specialized education while we will never stop the procedure to enlighten them in different fields that would lead us to the dreamland.
