The following appeared in a memo from the chief operating officer of the Presto Manufacturing Company.
"Since orders for our major product increased by over 200 percent last quarter, we should promptly expand production by building a new manufacturing plant in Summit City. Summit City is the ideal location for the new plant because it has low property taxes, extensive blocks of land available for immediate purchase, and a large number of residents who are not currently employed."

In this argument, the author quotes that the order for the major product in his company increased by 200 last quarter. Therefore, he recommends to build a new manufacturing plant in Summit City which he assumes to have great advantages. But after cautious reading I find some logical flaws in his argument.

First of all, the author unfairly assumes that order for the product in the following quarters will increase or remain a big amount. It is strongly possible that people need the product only in certain period of time in a year. Even though the order will remain increasing, it is not considerate to build a new plant. Perhaps the profit of one product is very little and the investment of a new plant may be a huge amount of money. And the risk of losing money should also be taken into account.

Secondly, the author fails to give any convincing reasons to support his recommendation about building a new plant in Summit City. The fact that the city has low property tax is not sufficient. Perhaps there are several other kinds of taxes which are high. And also the author fails to provide the condition of those blocks of land which are available for immediate purchase. It is entirely possible that those blocks of land are of high price, or perhaps they are in a remote area that is far away from the urban. Finally, the author unfairly assumes that the unemployed residents will work for his company. Maybe the residents who are not employed yet are mainly students who have to stay at school for several years.
