观点中立,传统是基础,是方向,现代化是发展传统的必须,两者有机融合才是硬道理。
As the world develops fast, modernization is becoming a main topic of society, and brings some problems relating to modernization and tradition, which are continuing controversy that whether modernization and tradition are incompatible. From my perspective, I agree, in most cases, they are not mutually exclusive. We should not lose sight of fact that tradition and modernization coexist and promote each other.
What is tradition? Tradition refers to the beliefs, values, customs, way of life, crafts, etc., that are handed down from generation to generation in a society. This definition clearly illuminates how important tradition is. Tradition is our society's foundation. Without regard to the influence and position of tradition, we cannot discuss modernization unilaterally, which is like a skyscraper without groundwork and brace. For example, Chinese traditional philosophy, which is different from western, is practical both individually and politically. The most influence school Confucianism, this ideology is unfailing to console and guide people in all ages even people around the world nowadays. Another illustration of education shows that despite some new approaches well up, the traditional way of teaching is still dominating. What is more, as crystallization of intellect from our ancestry, providing that there are some are not adopted today, the instructive advice still can help people escape out of imbroglio.
Undoubtedly, as we say above, tradition should eliminate some out-of-date minds and absorb some fresh idea, which reflect on what is needed in modern society, in order to conform to the development of the world, since all things are not unchanging indeed. That is to say, modernization is like ozone to ameliorate society. Without modernization, our life and society would find itself lingered in primitive carves with a life of eating raw birds and animals. The manifestation of modernization is the revolution of technology, the world becomes smaller because of rapid development of communication tools, and meanwhile many of our traditions are disremembered gradually. This is not so bad. Our life becomes so comfortable and convenient that we can talk with the person of everywhere through Internet, we can realize the different kinds of traditions of any nation. Likewise, when we come to the democratization, though remaining some question, the astonishing leap and gradual reform ensure people can enjoy more liberty of speech and equity in all kinds of aspects of social and political life.
Deep down, we need more wisdom in combining between the two. To clearly realize the affiliation between tradition and modernization is the key to deal with them insightful. The art of Suzhou Garden, for instance, today is well-known for absorbing the essence of modernization and following with a traditional idea of "as if natural”. The same is true that Confucianism, we discussed above, is also endowed a fresh connotation correctly. As a famous writer asserts that to inherit our tradition in perspective prepares ourselves for creativity.
In sum, it is not advisable to place emphasis on tradition or modernization simply. If we cast a look back at history of human beings, we will find that, with time elapsed, the relationship between tradition and modernization is alternate. Even if there is a conflict, we should do is to achieve a balance between them. |
