听力考试中的常见英语俚语和习语

托福考试流传一句话叫“得听力者得托福”，可见听力在托福考试中的比重。托福的听力的常见考点之一就是英语俚语和习语。很多托友都在听力部分栽过跟头，是因为大家往往忽略了英语词汇的学习（这是基础中的基础啊~），TOEFL分数的高低与一个人词汇量的多少密切相关。而英语俚语和习语作为词汇量的一部分，也是值得花点功夫记忆的。常被认为是非正式的语言，传统的“英语为第二语言(ESL)”课程也不会包括它们。很多外国学生和工作人员，即使学过很多年英语，已到了美国，都会被那些古怪的俚语弄得一头雾水。在日常谈话中、在流行小说里、在肥皂剧和电影上，这样的俚语无处不在。
　　我举个例子来说明一下掌握点英语俚语是很有用的：
1992年时，一个日本学生错进了别人的房子，不幸被屋主开枪打死，只因他没听懂屋主的命令：“Freeze(别动)！” 瞧，因为他不懂俚语，竟导致了丧命。

还有一次在秦苏珊托福班里的自由讨论时间，大家都在用英语尽情的交流，突然聊到很轻松的话题，我就用了一句beat a dead horse（白费劲儿），连老师都夸我用得生动。可见适当运用俚语，可以为口语对话增色不少呢。
下面是一些新托福听力考试里的热点英语俚语、习语；
常见的俚语、习语短句：
1. a picky eater 吃饭挑剔之人

2. apple of one's eye 珍爱之人（或物），宝贝

3. the cold shoulder 对某人冷淡

4. a slip of the tongue 口误

5. a bitter pill to swallow 吞下苦果

6. an apple a day keeps the doctor away 一天一个苹果，不用请医生（常吃水果有益健康）

7. a piece of cake 容易做的事（不费吹灰之力）

8. as fit as a fiddle 非常健康

9. a big appetite 胃口很好

10. an adventurous eater 大胆的食客

11. bring home the bacon 挣钱养家

12. bite off more than you can chew 贪多而吃不下（尤指接下过多工作而完不成）

13. burn the midnight oil 熬夜

14. be kept in the dark 被蒙在鼓里

15. behind the times 过时了，落伍了，不时髦

16. bump into 偶然碰到,撞见

17. burn the candle at both ends 非常忙碌，过度疲劳

18. cry over spilt milk 覆水难收

19. It is not my cup of tea 非我所爱

20. the calm before the storm 暴风雨前的平静

21. born with a silver spoon in your mouth 生于富贵之家，生来享受富贵

22. by hook or by crook 不择手段，无论如何

23. burn one's bridges 破釜沉舟，自断后路

24. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder 情人眼里出西施

25. bite the hand that feeds you 忘恩负义

26. eat like a horse 吃得很多

27. go to pieces 破碎,沮丧，心碎

28. go Dutch 各付各的钱

29. get the axe: 被解雇，被开除

30. go in one ear and out the other 听了并不照办,左耳朵进右耳朵出

31. get carried away 得意忘形,失去理智

32. give somebody a ring 给某人打电话

33. give somebody a hand 帮助某人

34. have your cake and eat it 鱼与熊掌兼得

俚语在句子中的活用：

1.beats me我不知道
Beats me. We haven’t learned that.
我不知道。我们还没学过那个。

2.beat it走开
Beat it! I’m busy right now.
走开！我现在正忙着。

3.beat a dead horse白费口舌，白费力气
I’ve already made up my mind. There’s no sense beating a dead horse.
我已经下了决心，不要再白费口舌了。

4.John Hancock签名
Put your John Hancock right here.
请在这里签名。

5.keep it under raps保密
Don’t tell anyone about the party. Let’s just keep it under eraps.
不要吧晚会的事告诉任何人。这件事情不要泄漏出去。

6.kick around讨论；多考虑一下
Let’s kick around a few more proposals before we come to a final decision.
我们最后决定之前多考虑几个方案吧。

7.junkie吸毒者
The junkie stole money in order to buy more drugs.
这名吸毒者为了买更多的毒品而偷钱。

8.put away大吃大喝
I’ve never seen anybody put away so much food and still look so thin.
我从未见过这么能吃的人还这么瘦。

9.put a move on挑逗
He tried to put the moves on her, but she turned him down.
他想要挑逗她，但她拒绝了他。

10.put one’s ass on the line两肋插刀，不惜一切
I put my ass on the line for you. I know you’ll do the same for me someday.

虽然有的专家说托福考试不用的猛背英语俚语和词组，但是我觉得适当掌握一些这样的词汇不光是听力，写作部分也用得上。另外，学点俚语能让你体会到英语的乐趣，在紧张的复习准备之余，愉悦一下心情不也挺好么！
