TOPIC: ISSUE56 - "Governments should focus more on solving the immediate problems of today rather than trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future."

In the society with a mass of problem such as racial discrimination, economic crisis, starving and shortage of resources,it depends mostly on the government to contrive ideas to solve these problem without doubt. When it comes to the priority of those problems, some say the immediate problems call for priorer focus than the anticipated problems of the future,as is asserted in the issue above. Is that the case?I think a good government should be able to set an agenda well balancing the weight of immediate problems and the future problems.

There is no denying that immediate problems such as the recent economic crisis should be paid highest attention and efficient policies and regulations should be enacted, promulgated and carried out  in time so that the amount of bankrupt companies and laid-off workers and the lose of money can be reduced in maximal limitation. The economic crisis affects the stability of the society. If the government overlooked the severity of  the problem and consequently failed to handle it in a proper way, chances are that on one hand, the economy keep depressed, consuming the exchequer to an unaffordable extent and thousands of heart-broken poor family may demonstrate to try to subvert the government by violence on the other hand. Therefore, government should try the best, when confronted with such severe crisis,to provide economic support(or savage) and carry out effective policies immediately while other problems should accordingly gain less economic and human resource regardless of the short-term and the long-term.

However, not all the immediate problems are as emergent as the economic crisis which occurs once a century or longer. Some other less emergent problems appear everyday.Should government spend most of the time and money on them while turning a deaf ear to the experts from various of fields who are appealing to take it serious on the problems such as legitimacy of euthanasia or cloning, sustainable development and population explosion, which will gradually unfold its potential importance to the society and human being? When people all over the world are combating for the space to live, the air to breathe in and the right to walk on the street which may ironicly cause the decrease of population to some extent in an undesirable way;when all the resources of the earth are used up,trees gone, flood covering the land, sky turning into darkness, administrators will say no.Moreover, some of those predictable problems call for a long-term strategy with enduring effort,if we put it off until the problem actually reflects its severity, any endeavor will be in vain. Therefore, government should pay equivalent attention to these problems,if not more, comparing to the immediate problems.

Sometimes it's hard to define a problem exactly as an immediate one or the future one.Education problem, for example,if not well solved, will surely cause disaster to the future society as well as our descendence;at the same time,it can also cause the decline of nation's quality immediately.Such problem can not be eaily solved in a short time.Effort on it must be uninterrupted.

On balance, government should focus equally on both immediate problems and the problems that will have great inflence on the future. As a good lead should have a vision and clear mind,a good government should not only see the emergency of some recent problems, but also see things in a wider blue print. The more immediate we take actions to deal with those potential problems, the less we will find those future problems immediate.
