"In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculties should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."   为了提高大学的教学质量,所有的教职员工应该去校外参加一些和他们教的课程相关的工作。

The speaker asserts that all faculties of a university should take a job which is relavent to their courses outside the campus. Thus the quality of instruction at the college can be improved. Although I concede that in some realms which are related to industrail production this idea is reasonable, it does not hold true in other areas that merely care about pure theory.

One reason for my agreement has to do with the function of our universities nowadays. As college education has become a kind of general education. It is required to put more efforts on teaching students the techniques which will be useful in their future career. In order to reach this goal, the faculties themselves should all be familiar with the application of those courses in industrial production. For example, if a computer teacher works for Microsoft at the same time, what he teaches will surely be more vividly and appealing than those who teach right from the text book. And, students love to attend this kind of course because they know what they are learning will be
useful.

But when it comes to some subjects which are merely relavent to pure theory such as physical science or philosophy, it is of little help for faculties to join in a profession outside the universities. Because the achievements in these kinds of realms can seldom be applied into production. An apt illustration can be found in quantum physics which involves complicated mathmatics knowledge. Obviously, this course is largely based on fundamental principles and different math fomulas. And it has little to do with techniques. To completely master it, a student should have a great talent in math and be very interested in physical research. At the same time, there are few profession which are relavent to the course. After all, without a big progress or protential profits, there is little chance for quantum physics to be applied in production. And this holds true for many other subjects that focus on discovering more than application. So what the faculty should do is to put more efforts on personal research rather than taking a job outside the campus.

Thirdly, I should assume that this idea is hard to be put into practice because it raises certain moral and economic problems. First, there should be rules about how long a faculty work for another company. Corporations may wish a faculty to work longer for them to make more profits, but obviously it is unfair to students. At the same time, the college will require the faculty to put more attention on teaching affairs and his research. It is difficult to strike a balance between the college and the company. It is even a tough decision to make for the faculty himself. Though not being willing, he has to admit that there should be a priority between college and the company, since both sides are eager to gain more benefit, he himself will surely be bothered by pressure from both of them.

In the final analysis, I concede that the speaker’s suggestion is acceptable in some pragmatic realms due to practical consideration. But it is not applicable in some abstruse realms. Moreover, this idea is not mature yet that many details remain to be fulfilled.

你的主题句好像是想说大学的作用 然后你的例子就是体现的出去工作的必要性 而且你的例子没有很好的展开

Thirdly, I should assume that this idea其实在仔细一点的叙述应该也可以的 不然这里就有指代不明的嫌疑 is hard to be put into practice because it raises certain moral and economic problems. First, there should be rules about how long a faculty work for another company. Corporations may wish a faculty to work longer for them to make more profits, but obviously it is unfair to students.
