The speaker asserts that technologies not only have an impact on social customs and ethic but also determine it. In my view, it is true that technologies can influence customs and ethics of a society, of course, nevertheless the assertion of be determined social customs and ethics by technologies is arbitrary for the reason that technologies is just a tool in the process of the evolution of human.

Admittedly, I concede that technologies indeed play an role in the generation and evolution of customs and ethics of societies for the reason that technologies, obviously, accelerate that process and make the ideology more public to populace than ever. Consider, for example, with the development of internet, we human begin to be exposed to the bombardment of information of internet which conveys a large amount of different views to us. When it comes to the influence of network, it is natural to remind of the change of the way of communication. In the past, all people wrote letters to keep connection with their relations and friends whose interval is so long that one often felt impatient with waiting for replication. On the contrast, turn our attention to the
contemporary communication pattern--internet. We no longer complain the long-time waiting of replication and on stamps are not needed for ever. Grounded in the case of communication, we can easily find out technologies have changed our communication pattern which is one of the component of social customs and ethics. Simply put, whether rightly or wrongly, we have to admitted the the influence of technologies indeed exists in our customs and ethics.

However, though the impact of technologies on social customs and ethics, we cannot claims, because of influence, that technologies actually determine matters of a country in that technologies is merely medium which facilitate development of the customs and ethics. For instance, when it comes to the fight of women right, feminists made good use of modern media to instill their equality ideology between man and woman to individuals. Clearly, their notion about equality should formed first and then through the technologies of modern media to disseminate all over the world. According to this fact, no matter what others would said, we have to agree that technologies just played a part in the movement of women which helped the revolution in the rank of women of society spread widely and quickly. Moving on to a wider theme, if we cast a look back at various customs and ethics in the world, it is easy to find that most the generation of customs and ethics have no relation with technologies such as the Thanksgiving Day--each individual may know what the festival derived from--which was to celebrate harvest of the first immigrants that help them through the starvation, at the same time, where could we find the influence of technologies? Unfortunately, technologies even did not place any influence on the generation of Thanksgiving Day. All in all, technologies cannot determined social customs and ethics not only for it is just medium but also that the chief reason that a large potion of customs and ethics shaped without technologies.

To sum up, providing that no factor of technologies participate in the spread of customs and ethics, on doubtfully the process of the growth of customs and ethics would be decelerated, nonetheless the social customs and ethics are bond to finally develop fully.
