Should government place few restrictions on the scientific research and development, as the speaker claims so? However, as far as I am concerned, due to the complexity of the issue, the choice of whether to confine the research and development of science should be decided by a case-by-case situation.

First of all, no matter what others may say, we have to admit that the advantages and convenience the development of science bring to us. Grounded in this reason, our government, of course, should support the research and development of advance technologies which are truly worthy. When faced with advantages of science, there are a large amount of examples to illustrate my position. Consider, for example, with the development of medical science, many illnesses which once were consider deadly have found efficient therapies to heal that patients. Because of the effective approaches for various illnesses, we human have enjoyed longer lives than ever before. Turn our attention to another more persuasive example. The advance of transportations, such as the invention of automobile, ship and plane, bring to us new communications which can save time for the increasing of speed of communications. Simply put, it is obviously that the research and development of technologies play a crucial role in the advance of human society.

On the other hand, though the development of science promotes the people’s living standard, we cannot overlook the disadvantages of the research and development of science. Take the pollution of burning fossil fuel as an example to illustrate my viewpoint. It is true that burning fossil fuel supply us with enough energy which is the power of all electric equipment, but we, at the same time, suffering from the problem of air pollution that may leads to some illnesses. At the even worse, acid rain, which was caused by air pollution, have directly damaged many ancient architectures and ruined the healthy of human and other animals. Over relying on electronic products is another case. The memory of individuals in modern society is serious impaired by the logging function of mobiles, computers, etc which result in the high rate of amnesia. In a word, science is a double-edged sword for the whole society for it is impossible to evade the disadvantages with the benefits.

Furthermore, that whether restrictions are placed on the scientific research and development by government should be determined by the analysis of balancing the advantages and disadvantages of research. For instance, when it comes to colon, we often hear different assertions which are usually absolutely supported or not from different people. Nonetheless, in my view under some circumstances our government approves the research of colon for it can help us to find out the essential causes of illnesses, while in another cases our government can only stop the project of colon of human for the reason that human coloning transgress the moral rules.

To sum up, the choice on restricting a kind of scientific research and development or not can only be chosen after evaluating the content and nature of research simply because scientific researches are different from each other
