I partly agree with the speaker's general assertion that the ability to persist his particular principles is required for an effective leader. Yet, the speaker overlooks the diadvantage of the inflexibility and the importance of hearing the popular opinion. In my view, the quality to hear from the major public's oponion and the ability to commit to one's particular principles and objectives are both essential qualities required to be an effective leader.

It is true that in some certain conditions, the leader should persist in his priciples especially when the people have been in panic. On one hand, Leadership is about to creat a harmonious social environment for his people to develope thier life. Thus, the essential priciples of a leader should be determined to make most use of the social resources to ensure the people's interests. That means the major premise of the leader's priciples should never change. On the other hand, the leader that usually betrays his basis principles would be regarded unreliable and his people would possibly get nervious about the further political decisions that might totally differ from the leader's previous gurantee. So that the ability of remain consistently of his particular principles is important to a leader.

However, the inflexibility of the leadership might lead to keep the entire society from developing. No human is perfect, and even the leader trusted by most of his people has limitations. Most leaders are especialists in the category of polity and short in other fields. For example, when it comes to the discussion about the financial aids to the field of science, the leader might know few about the development of science and probably fails to finger out the importance to invest the scientific researchs but unwisely insists to put most of the money to establish an extra park or other recreations. Here, the limitations of the leader's knowledge play an influence on his decision without the help of the others’ opinion. Further, hearing from people can make the leader better informed and know more about the society and its people's condition. Nowadays, the society developes so quickly that one should devote most the time to learn new things to keep up with the high-speeded pace. Therefore, only make decision accroding to the basis princiles that might have fallen behind the developing society would turn out to be a mistake. While at the hearing of the mainstream’s ideas would keep the leader from such a mistake.

Without an ability ro remain consistently committed to particular principles and objectives, the leader would be lost his authority and people's trustness; without the quality to hear from the general public, the leader would be isolated from the truth and make decisions groudlessly. In conclusion, to be an effective and adorable leader, both abilities are demanded.
