TOPIC: ISSUE160 - "The most essential quality of an effective leader is the ability to remain
consistently committed to particular principles and objectives. Any leader who is quickly and
easily influenced by shifts in popular opinion will accomplish little."

Every nation, despite the form of the society and government, need someone or a group to lead
its people. In this way, these people in power are regarded as the head of the whole nation
and thus, required to be most talented and effective in dealing with the national concerning
affairs. The speaker of this issue, who might have been influenced by such statement above,
hold the point that in order to be effective, leaders should have the quality of insisting a
certain standards and goals, and should not be influenced by the public ideas with ease.
Having examined the evidences carefully, I strongly agree with the author.

It is undeniable that the consistantly committed to the leader's opinions in achieving
certain goal is of high usefulness. A nation, though composed by various levels of citizens
and hence filled with defferent views, has its short-term and long-term goals which is clear
in any given aspect. In this case, those in powers should pay more attention to the aim
itself and the ability of practicing it consistantly is heavily required. Only in this way
can the whole oganization or even larger group achieve the primary goal they sets, and may
benefit from it.

However, easily been influenced by others, leaders, even equiped with massive knowledges and
principles, may lose their ability in making decisions and resolving the riddles one after
another. For axamole, Yuanshao, a famous lord in the ancient Chinese novel: the Three Kingdom
which was written out according to the authentic history, ruled a large part of Chinese
territory, and controled the greatest army in that time. However, as lord Yuan hardly has he
own opinion, and easily got influenced by his consultants despite the correctness of the idea
they provide, he killed many of his generals and sages according to those misleading
massages. Finally, his army collapsed and lost in a vital war against another lord called
Caocao, most his territory was occupied by lord Cao. Yuan family, eminent as they used to be,
disappeared in that chaos period. This kind of tragedy came into being only because the the
leader seldom has his own opinion and get easily influenced by others.

On the other hand, the ability to remain the constent commitment to certain formula does not equal to totally
ignoring the ideas that come from out side. Since every person has his or her specialised
field, and the riddle one is going to deal with always has defferent facet of elements which
required all-sided knowledge to handle, leaders need suggestions brought by experts in other
area. If not, those in the peak of the power will gradually act as a arbitrary dictator,  and
the power they posesse may function as Pandora's Box. When studied carefully, vivid examples
of this kind in the history can be easily found. The emporor of Roman, Caesar, luanched its
army against Pompeii, while Louis XVI against Europe, Hitler against the whole world. Their
purposes, to some extend, is for certain profit of some groups, however, when considered in
terms of higher level of intersts, they were absolutely wrong. These leaders were overlooking
the ideas of larger group of people.

In sum, in order to be an effective leader, one should striking a better balence between
mrerly consistant commitment to the principles and has no idea but to listen to others.
