Is the only way to succeed is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view? Or does pragmatic behavior guarantees survival, while idealistic views are always be replaced by simpler, more immediate options? The speaker claims so. However, as far as I am concerned, it is necessary to take a pragmatic measures to address question with which we faced and then these behaviors is the foundation of survival, but I disagree with the notion that opinions of idealism are most likely to be replaced by the ones which is simpler, more immediate.
To begin with, as the saying that "Practice is the solo criterion for judging truth", which was said by the architect of China's reform and opening to the out side world, Deng Xiaoping, is profoundly and obviously used to point out that the importance of practical viewpoint. Here is a case in point to illustrate my position. The designation of perpetual motion machine, during the late nineteenth century, many of scientists devoted themselves in the researches and experiments of that machine. However, there is no special example who successfully invented the first perpetual motion machine in the world due to the nature law of conservation of energy-which is to describe the process of transition of energy from one style to another and finally the whole energy is never changed. That is to say, the imagination of the perpetual motion machine is unrealistic that is the essential cause of the failure of the scientists and inventors. Simply put, it is required that the feasibility of ideas should be taken into account before we carry out our plans.
Furthermore, pragmatic behaviors are the foundation of survival in that whether rightly or wrongly, we human have to admit that without life, we can do nothing. Moving on to wide theme, the law can also be applied to nations. Consider, for example, Meiji reformation, which lead Japan to flourish and strong, enacted many practical measures and policies to reduce the poverty and lack of knowledge and technologies. Providing that Japanese still indulged in the fantasy that Japan was a powerful and strong one in the feudalism countries, it is obviously and possible that Japan is controlled by United Kingdom. In a word, pragmatic behaviors are the solo solution to problems or crisis.
Nevertheless, it is true that realism is more effective than the idealism, but that is not to say idealistic views tend to give away to simpler, more immediate options. For instance, when it comes to exploiting the natural resources, some individuals just simply adopt measures which cost less but destroy environment seriously. Finally, the surroundings around the factories or mines are often not suitable for human to inhabit. Moreover, it is the pursuit of realism which encourage human to advance. Take the improvement of airplane as an example. From the day when the first airplane was created, with incentive of the idea that human can fly like birds which was seemingly unrealistic in that era, the improvements of the airplane takes place again and again and finally we, actually, can fly faster and longer than birds.
To sum up, I fundamentally agree with the assertion that practical action is the only to success and survival. However, under some circumstances it simple and immediate options is not feasible for the reason that it may in fact bring us disasters |
