Depending on the personal experience and the type of personality, different people have different attitudes toward this question. Some people who are interested in the art would agree with the statement, meanwhile others who prefer to doing sports would disagree with that. From my point of view, the government should spend more money on athletics rather than arts.

First, the main reason for my opinion is that the facilities of athletics in our country do not satisfy the need of the civilian. For instance, even there are not one sport facility in my community, so we have to take a bus to the only stadium which is established in our city to do sports. In addition, the sport facilities of school is also poor enough to satisfy the students.

Another reason why I disagree with the above statement is that doing sports is not only good for our physical health but also good for our mood. As you know, there are more and more people have a mental illness, and also we have much more survivable pressure than before, so we need a mean to release the pressure and the sports is the best way to release the pressure. Like me, when I was in a low mood I can not do anything efficiently, so I have to play basketball to reduce the bad emotion.

Furthermore, although I agree that art is also important for the civilian, this does not mean that the arts is more important than athletics. As a developing country, not all the civilian can have a sense about arts, meanwhile all the people can have his or her favourite sport. For instance, almost everyone in our country is the enthusiastic supporter of the Beijing Olympic Games, because they all have one or some favourite sports among the Olympic Games.

In a nutshell,I do not agree with the statement in the title, I think the sports are more important for the civilian in our country than the arts does.
