Listen to part of a talk in a music class.

The professor is discussing a musical theater production.

It may seems straight(strange) that we're discussing music for my bradway (from a Broadway) production in this class, And the 不会拼("The Lion King") especially, sent it base on the (since it's based on a) popular hollywood (Hollywood) movie.

I mean music performed for broadway centre(Broadway theater) in the heart of New York (city)City surely would seem to the(be) in the western tradition of popular music,

And(and) not have much in common with the music wisdom(we've been) studying in this course, Such(such) as gamerla不会拼,瞎蒙的(gamelan) music in the 听不清(of Indonesia), or 不会拼,但写出的音标跟这个一样,可见,有时可以根据读音猜词(Zulu)  chan...(chants) of South Africa ?

music that(听漏了) developed outside the western tradition of European( Europe and) America.

But in fact, musicians have a long standing tradition of borrowing(猜的) from one of other's(another's) curtures(cultures).

And this production's director intentionally included both western and nonwestern (non western) music.

That way(听漏了) , some of the ridoms(rhythms), instroments(instruments), harmonies tipical(typical) of non western music contrast with an comple不会拼(and complement) popular music were(more) familiar to audiences in North America and Europe, music like what(rock), Jazz(jazz) or Broadway style showtens(show tunes).

So I want it(多余)to spend the rest of this class and most of the next one on the music from the show "The Lion King" as a way of summarizing some of the technical distinctions between typical western music and (the漏了) non western music that  we still study in (we've been studying).

Now the African influence on the music crea...(is clear), the story takes place in Africa.

So the director got a South African composer to write songs with it did stincly (a distinctly) African sound.

and sounds...groups.. (And the songs even include) words from African languages.

But work it ...ly (we'll get back to the)African influence later.

First let's turn to the music that(漏了) with(was) written for the shadow public things(puppet scenes) in "The Lion King", music based on the Indonesian music used in the shadow puppet theater of that wadgen(region).

Listen to part of a talk in a class on the history of science.

In ancient times, many people believed …听不懂....disk (the earth was a flat disc.)

one or two thousands years ago,(Well over 2,000 years ago), the ………..to …………wai………..proving it was not. (the ancient Greek philosophers were able to put forward two good arguments proving that it was not.)

Direct observation ….. (of heavenly) bodies with(was) the bases(basis) of both each(these) arguments.

First, the glance…..dream creapsis on the moon(Greeks knew that during eclipses of the moon), the earthquake(arth) was(漏了) between …..听不出…. (the sun and) the moon, and you (they) saw that d…..c…ripis….(during these eclipses), the old(earth's) shadow on the moon was always around(round),

they realized it can(that this could) be true only a feel who is firocal…( if the earth was spherical).

Earth theater plansant disk(If the earth were a flat disc), then each(its) shadow doing(during) a cripsis… (eclipses) would not be a perfect circle, it would be stretched out into a long elips (ellipse).

The second argument was based on one of gtic saw dreams (what the Greeks saw during) their(漏了) travels.

They know the motostar… (noticed that the North Star), or plairs(Polaris), appeared no one (lower) in the sky in the trouble itself.(when they traveled south), in(漏了) more noisily(northerly) regions, they know each other purity (the North Star appeared to them) to be much higher in the sky.

By the way, it was also found it (from this) difference in the apparent position of a not start(the North Star) the(that) the digrees(Greeks) first conculated(calculated) the approixed(approximate) distance around of count…the earth.(the circumference of the earth),

a figutred(figure) recorded nation(in ancient) documents says 400,000 stadim(stadia), that's the poor(plural) of the words(word) steadim(stadium).

Today is not that exatly(Today, it's not known exactly) what link(length) want(one) steadium(stadium) represents, but let's say with(it was) about 200 meters, ……听不懂…….(the length of many athletic stadiums).

…………(This would make the Greek's estimate) about twice the(漏了) figure except(accepted) today, a very good estimate for those writing so long before even the first talerscore… goe..vent…it. (fast telescope was invented.)

TMD惨,第二次,整句话的听不懂,慢慢来吧。。。
这篇感觉有点专业性

1989-01-P2

We are rapidly nearing the end of this course in the history of classical music.

We have covered several centuries in a very short time.

Much too short to do the music justice, of course, but then this is a survey course.

For(From) now until the end of the term, we'll be talking about and listening to electronic music.

You probably already know what is (it was) in the 1950s(1930 s) that musical computers and cerso….不会拼(synthesizers) first disappeared(appeared) in the unniversity(universities).

The first commercial synthesizers were sold out(about) this time, too.

The certification(sophistication
诡辩) and complexity of these instruments has now increased to the point that they can procuse(produce) almost any kind of sound.

Some of alimmer illive..(alarmists 杞人忧天者 believe) these new(漏了) instruments will bring in the (an) end of(to) classical music or (that,多了) they've already have.

You know I don't share this view, do(though) I agree we are in the midst of a revolution in (the,多了,这里读的很轻很短,基本略读了) instrument design.

This,
however, is not the first such revolution in (the,
多了) musical history and (follow brate…)probably not the last one either.

Remember we've already study(studied) a similar case in the early nineteenth century.

When (in the end of) the piano replaced the harpsichord and (model in braze)modern brass and win(wind) instruments came into the end(being.)这里没有用心听。

One of the most important reasons why(for) the great popularity of lackcronic(electronic) instruments is of course their relatively cheap price.

Well, just look at it.

Only about 400 dollars for the(an) electronic keyboard compared to the(nearly) 3000 dollars for the(a) piano.

Naturally, this is on the lot a cree…(has done a lot to increase) sales of electronic instruments.

But I don't think even the most ardent(热情洋溢的,) supporters of electronic instruments expect them to completely with place to (replace) acoustic(有关声音的)
instruments.

忏悔,回来晚了,从今天起一定正常进行!

Let's look back In history to an earlier way of life.

At one time, children didn't have to learn any more than how to coop(cope) with their should(physical) 这里的读音简直对不上啊environment.

They had to learn to be careful around moving objects, to draw back when they got too close to something dangerous.

They didn't need a special school to learn these things other than the school of experience(听对了), nor (听对了)was school is necessary for them to learn how to survive.

Because their parents taught them all they ne about how to hunt and in details with …(to till the soil.经营土地)

Beacuse(But as the) society became well(more) 这里不该错根据结构能猜出complex, people depended more on others who were living(第一次听的will live in,但看下结构后猜出来了) far away.

So it became important for children to learn to read and write.

When money was created, they needed to learn to count and caculate(calculate).

Children had to know these things(这里听的不是很清楚开始读音听成如nail be things) in order to survive in this new expended(expanded) environment.

Because such skills could not be learned simply from first-hand(直接的) experience, schools became necessary so the(that) children could be taught what we now call the three Rs: reading, writing and arithmetic(算术).

这一次听的感觉好了一点,不像之前干听,开始结合文章意思和上下文结构帮助理解和猜意思了。错误感觉也少了一点。有些很外的东西,需要掌握和积累。如:three Rs: reading, writing and arithmetic(算术).

1990-05-p3

Today, I'll be talking about the invention of the camera and photography.

The camera if often thought to be a modern invention.

But as early as 1727, a German physicist discovered that light darkened silver salt, a chemical compound.

Using as a camera, a big box with a small hole to let the light in, he made temporary images on the salt.

Silver salt is still the base of film today.

Then a French scientist made the first permanent picture by using a special piece of metal sensitized with silver salt.

A photography he made in 1826 still exists.

The painter Dagera improved down(on) the process by placing common salt, the kind we eat, on the metal.

This was in 1839, the official date of the beginning of photography(n.摄影).

But the problem was the printing of the photographs.

And it wasn't until other scientists developed the kind of paper we now use that good printing respondible(was possible) and photography became truly modern.

In 1860's, Matthew Brady was able to take his famous pictures of the American Civil War, that is(thus) making portrait(肖像) poses very popular.

In the 20th century, George Eastman of the United States simplified film developing, and Dr.(这里原文漏掉了) Edwards Land invented the so-called instant camera with self-developing film.

If we say that the photography came into existence in 1839, it follows that it has taken more than one hundred years for the camera to reach its present condition of technical refinement.(好句子)
