Accompanied by the ever increasing advance in the science and technology, the requirement of modern jobs becomes specialized. If a person wants to apply for a software engineer' vocation in IBM, he or she must has a long study in computer science. Thus, most people claim that the courses in universities should totally focus on students' major. However, with all aspects carefully considered, I still believe that the basic science courses should be included in students' schedules.

First of all, the more students learn, the more likely they will succeed in the future career. As is known to all, knowledge is the power. Those successful people in history mostly had a broad mind. In other words, they did not simply concentrate on one subject. For instance, the well-known businessman, Bill Gates, is such kind of person. When he was in Harvard University, Gates was crazy in programming. Meanwhile, he added a mathematic course to his learning schedule. This choice undoubtedly benefited Gates a lot in his career as a programmer and businessman. If Gates had not chosen that course, he would have paid more time to make up in his workdays.

In addition, people learn the basic science knowledge, also known as the common sense, so that they can use it in daily life. As the old saying goes, you never know what tomorrow will bring you. People who acquire more basic knowledge can be helpful in an emergency. For example, I got a terrible experience when I was 7 years old. On that summer night my family had a dinner in a restaurant at seaside. After enjoying the delicious seafood, I ate some oranges. Then I had a stomachache. Noticing that it was food poisoning, my mother sent me to hospital at once. So, it is my mother’s basic knowledge that helped me get rid of danger.

Admittedly, there is no garden without weed. Taking course on basic science surely reduce the time on major course. Also, some fundamental science knowledge will possibly not be used in future, even one’s life.

To sum up, the fundamental scientific knowledge is not only beneficial for people' career but also for their life. So, why not to add the basic science course to the university curriculum?
