Accompanied by the ever increasing development of the society, the working demands on individuals also sharply rise. If a young man wants to apply for a position on programming in Microsoft, he must be specialized in computer science. Thus, many people claim that the courses in college should entirely focus on the major. Only in this way can students learn well. However, with all aspects carefully considered, I still believe that students in different majors should take courses on history.
To begin with, the more history people know, the more experience and lessons they acquire, which is significant for individuals and the society. As the old Chinese proverb goes, history is the mirror of human beings. That is to say, people may learn from their precursor's mistakes and avoid such mistakes. Similarly, the experience of our ancestors is of high value. For instance, the World War, the Black Death in 14th century and the pollution at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution are warnings and lessons, from which people, especially college students, should learn. Then human beings may prevent these faults from happening again in the future. Without the memory of history, how can we hope that the world will become a harmonious place to live?
In addition, people can always gain fun in reading history books so that they can study and relax at the same time. As is known to all, students can improve their learning efficiency in a condition with less pressure. Having interest in history, students acquire a way of refreshment. Take myself for example. I would like to read the funny and meaningful stories in history. Everyone knows that Jiaozi is popular in China, but only a few exactly understand how the custom that put a coin into one Jiaozi when having Jiaozi in Spring Festival develops. When I study this tradition from ancient Chinese, I have fun and broaden my mind. It is history that brings me joy and knowledge.
Admittedly, there is no garden without weed. Taking history course surely reduce the learning time on major courses. Also, some theories from history possibly will not be used in daily life, even one's life.
In conclusion, studying history is not only beneficial for individuals but also for the whole society. So, why not add history course into the curriculum in universities. |
