Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The next twenty years from now on, students will not use printed books any more. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.08/04/07

Nowadays, it is a common phenomenon that college students use laptops in classes, and a increasing number of individuals believe that students will no longer need traditional printed books in the next twenty years from now on. Considerable though the advantages that operating laptops enjoys are, they can not compete with the benefit that using books brings about, when individual character and convenience are taken into account.

To begin with, in traditional printed books, we can write down anything at anywhere we want. For instance, I always take a lot of notes at classes, then use different kinds of colors to point out the important parts. Sometimes I still like to draw small pictures on them for making them much funny. If there is enough time after class, I would draw some pictures on my textbooks as a sketch to show my feelings at certain moment. That is to say, textbooks are also diarys of mine. On the contrary, students can not type their own styles by using computers, and they can not even make a mark at where they want. To the already familiar examples a number of further facts maybe added. Losing printed books means lose individuals' characteristics. That is the reason why I don't believe textbooks will be replaced.

Furthermore, when human beings enjoy the super power of laptops, isn't it necessary that they give some consideration to the convenience of books? With the advance of paper manufactures, printed books are becoming much smaller and lighter, including textbooks and dictionarys. It is highly convenient for people setting them in their pockets. As a matter of fact, it is easy to find there are a great number of students reciting texts loudly on campus in the morning, and there are also some students have the habit of reading books quietly at school. Can you imagine if all the students holding computers instead?

There is little doubt, with the development of science and technology, computers play a significant role in our life. With the help of internet, students can ask any question on the net, they can also easily find as much information as they want. However, the advantages of computers can not compare with the benefit books bringing about to us.

Contrary to the opinion of many people is my heartfelt objection to the idea that printed books will disappear in students' life twenty years later, when human beings' personality and convenience are taken into consideration.
