Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Getting advice from older friends is more valuable than getting advice from friends at your age. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.（08/17/07）

Individuals always need help when facing crossroads in their progress of growth. When teenagers enjoy talking about their problems with peers, isn't it necessary that they give some consideration to the benefits if they change their thinking with parents? Considerable though the advantages that getting advice from peers are, they can not compete with the benefits that asking elder people brings about, when their knowledge, experiences and thinking methods are taken into account.

To begin with, older people are far more knowledgeable than we are. As a matter of fact, I have not realize how complicated the society is until graduation. Growing up in highly protected families, we can not imagine what the outside world looks like. That's why we need older friends' help, who experienced much more than us, including elder colleagues, professors and parents. For instance, when I was wondering whether to find a job or continue further study abroad after graduation, I turned to my classmates. But no one can give me a certain answer. Because we were all facing the crossroad of graduation, and none of us had experienced this period beforehand. However, my professors helped me a lot at that time. There are so many graduate students they met during their career, and at the same time, they had been through this difficult time when they were young. They explained the advantages and disadvantages of study abroad to me, and also introduced some of their friends who were living in foreign countries. I really appreciated their help, because I could not make my decision of study abroad without their advice.

Furthermore, elder people may see things from other perspectives, which are totally different from us. There is little doubt that teenagers and elder people share different period of time, so they would think in diverse ways. For example, I always think about how to get the peak of my career, but my parents concern more about my health and safety. Consequently, I frequently can get fresh ideas from elder people's advice, which is more useful than those ideas from my peers. To the already familiar examples a numerous of further facts may be added. No doubt, we need new ideas for lighting us up.

Although, we share many common features with our peers, advice from elder people are much convincing and helpful. Contrary to the opinion of many people is my heartfelt agreement with the idea that it is wise to get advice from elder companions.
