5/9/09 今天收到ETS信， 本以为是正式成绩，打开看是ETS offer我free retest verbal section的信。发在这里希望听听大家的意见，同时也可以作为一个案例和大家分享。

A 信的内容： (原信见附件)
The GRE Program recently implemented a review process of individual test performance for the computer-based GRE General Test Verbal and Quantitative sections. The purpose of the process is to analyze each test taker's performance data because, in a very small number of cases, the computer algorithm may not have selected an optimal distribution of test questions that would have allowed the test taker to fully demonstrate his or her true ability level. It appears that this may have happened to you on the VERBAL section of the test. As a result, ETS is offering you the opportunity to take a free retest on this particular section only.

We want to stress that you did not do anything inappropriate during your test session. The computer algorithm selects test questions based on several factors, including the statistical characteristics of those questions you have already answered (including the difficulty level), the required variety of question types, and appropriate coverage of content. On the VERBAL section of your test, it appears that the computer algorithm may have selected a more limited range of test questions than is desirable. No other sections of the test were affected.

In considering whether to retest, it is important to note that the score you earn could be lower, higher or the same as the score you originally received. The new score, if it is different, will replace the existing score for the affected section in our records. If you want more information before making a decision to retest, see the Frequently Asked Questions About the Free Retest Policy at ets.org/gre/retestfaqs.

If you wish to take a free retest, use voucher number XXX to schedule an appointment. This voucher number is valid for up to six months following your original test date. ….

Scores on the retest will be reported to you and your designated score recipients within 10-15 days after the test date. Score recipients will receive information about the retest when the score for the affected section is sent to them.

B 成绩分析
考试成绩570， 使用免费的GRE® Basic Diagnostic Service (http://grediagnostic.ets.org)查出具体答题情况如下：

30题总共错6题 (反义错2，类比错1，句子填空全对，阅读共错3)。前10题错3题。

通篇难度系数为2，3，没有出现任何难度系数为4，5的题。第6，7题为短阅读，两题虽然均答对，难度系数为2，但第8题计算机并没有跳高难度系数题，难度系数仍为2。根据分析计算机之所以通篇都没有给我跳难度系数为4，5题的原因是我开始3题就错2，而且都是难度系数为2的题。这再次印证1) 机考不能以绝对答对几题来判断分数。2) 前10题，或者前3题决定整篇的难度系数。3) ETS的难度和我们的难度不一样，也就是他认为简单的，我们可能答错，他认为难的我们可能答对。

ETS review认为计算机没有给我跳难度系数为4，5分的题，还是有失公平的。猜想ETS增加的review process可能就是又加入其他一些参数(比如增加总答对题数与总题数的比例)，如果和成绩相比的ratio不normal(超出他们预定的范围值) 就会跳出来，然后他们人工看，再决定是否给test taker retest 的机会。

C 我是否应该retest?
刚考完看到成绩时确实很失望，因为感觉答题很顺，感觉应该有600，700分。后期用PP2,PP3模拟考试都是600+，700+，甚至有三次800。但是我打算申请的两所学校要求总分1000+且V500+，Q500+ (我现在成绩V570，Q790已经够了)。而且已经扔下一段时间了，重新看需要精力和时间。重考对申请意义不大，诚实的讲只是满足自己完美主义者的虚荣心而已。另外就是不知道G成绩对申请奖学金影响怎样？况且重考未必分数就会高，如果还象这次这样第6题就阅读，前三题错2题，可能比这次分数还低，这个也是有风险的。本来已经心理调试完毕，接受这个现实了，没想到今天又收到这样一封信。希望听听大家的意见。(在原考日期后6个月内retest都可以)

另外，提醒大家原来曾经听说如果计算机每次给你换题型，就是说明答对了是不准的(从我的案例可以看出)。另外我在做PP3时也多次遇到过虽然做对，下题还是同样题型(该题类比对，下题仍然是类比)。所以考试时不要因为计算机总不换题，以为自己答错，影响心情。

既然是FREE-TEST就参加呗，成绩不如上次可以不要成绩啊～其实你也说了，你的成绩足够用了。再投入太多精力就没必要，但再去撞撞运气倒是可以呵呵。我瞎说呢～

出成绩，是在选择cancel还是保留成绩之前。也就是说在计算机上看到成绩后，就无法再取消了。
所以要自己考完后在10分钟之内判断要成绩还是不要成绩。问题是自己判断通常不准，像我这次感觉好，可难度系数低，分也不高。另有人总共错8题，得660。也有的觉得答的不好，想取消成绩的，最后决定要成绩，竟然700多分。

考G的目的是为了申请，分数够用就行了；不要又交钱给ETS，还给ETS当小白玩。

如果出了成绩不如这次的好，就用上次的申请，这样会对申请学校有负面影响吗？我不太明白呵呵。

主要是前5题错了2个导致难度系数降低，这样即使后面错得少也难得高分，这可能也是ETS考试系统的缺陷，仅根据前5题答题情况决定整套体的难度系数，所以他们对这种小概率情况提供加试。不过这种情况真是很少出现，我一般是前5个答得不好，后面也跟着错很多。我觉得这个分数够用，可以不用再考了。

呵呵，也来报一个分析供参考。发现这个分析很有用，如果童鞋们都去看看报报汇总一下，估计算分方法就明了了。

V：790。错了一个level 5一个level 4，都是阅读的organization and argument里的。

Q：800。错了一个level 4一个level 3，重要的是level 3是第二题！

结论：V和Q的算分方法不同。V更严，Q松。
结论2：我的所有阅读只有一个5, 一个4， 并且这两题都在organization and argument里。其它还有implicit meaning 和explicit meaning。如果大家的难题也都集中在O and A里，那是不是可以说，错organization and argument对分数影响相对少些，因为级数可能比较高啊。
