第3天，22点。
       今天没有把时间都用在AW上，还在进行难句和阅读的训练中，发现快速阅读和全面理解文章内容真的很是矛盾。anyway，要继续努力！
晚上开始在精华区转着看帖子，又连接到了奥巴马的就职演讲，拜读后发现人家的用词虽不高深，但是行文怎么就那么流畅呢？看来就和无夏说的一样，好的文章并不靠华丽辞藻来堆砌！
今天的一点小感悟－－ Metaphor is really powerful!

It is the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor. It's the answer that led by those who've been told for so long by so many to be cynical and fearful and doubtful about what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.

在看了多篇精华帖后，我的第一篇ａｒｇｕｍｅｎｔ终于破茧而出了。虽然挺痛苦，但是对我来说还是有飞跃的意义。以前也写过ａｒｇｕｍｅｎｔ，但是基本处于对应题目找茬阶段，觉得这种写作真的很是枯燥，乏善可陈。曾经也以为ａｒｇｕｍｅｎｔ就是这样子，一条一条原因的批。但是经过最近的学习，彻底推翻了我以前的想法。　特别感谢ｂｅｒｎｉｎａ　的刨根问底看范文系列。　范文才是ＡＷ的写作圣经啊！

我写作有本北美范文，和那本黄皮书，应该是新东方出的吧，但是很惭愧，几乎没有怎么看过。作文版的精华帖看看还是很收益的。

第一篇issue, 写的依然很痛苦，很慢，而且自己觉得有点假大空的感觉。

"In any realm of life—whether academic, social, business, or political—the only way to succeed is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view. Pragmatic behavior guarantees survival, whereas idealistic views tend to be superceded by simpler, more immediate options."
       
It seems that idealistic and pragmatic are just on the opposite, while none of them are dispensible in the way to succeed. They are like twins that bonded together in almost every breakthrough during human history. While, pragmatic and idealistic are all two edge swords. They can either help you to get success or block your way leading to a better future. Thinking practically, and being satisfied in who you are and what you do, ones thought would be bridled and passion for life will be lost, moreover, some talent such as inherited ability of innovation will die out before being discovered. No doubt, what is waiting for in the head will be always a mediocre life.  Acting idealistically is also a disaster. Fancy daydreams could not feed one’s mind and stomach, life is tough and complex, without obeying the rules of reality world, we can go nowhere. But, the combination of idealistic thought and pragmatic behavior is always the remedy for success.

Idealistic thoughts, such as dreams and imagination are the source of human development which will never be exhausted, being rooted in human nature. Without them, we won’t become what we are today. To fly in the sky, to land on the moon, to talk with people in the other side of world, they were all ridiculous dreams once upon. If there are no idealists, no dreams, there would be no cars on the road, planes in the sky, spacecrafts in the outspace. Computer, TV, fridge, lamp all of them would be gone. Could you imagine your life without all of them? Fortunately, our forefathers never stopped imagination and dreaming and they were not frightened by the threats, cynicisms and all other obstacles on their way to the truth. Copernicus didn’t, so didn’t Galileo and Bruno. Without the breakthrough they made in science, the lands of Americans would not be discovered. Our world is making progress in every field of life because of dreams. The foundation of United States of American once to be a dream for many settlers, but it came true. Being living equally in the US once to be a dream for the black, but it came true. To land on the moon, travel in the outspace, transplant artificial organs to save dying people, all these dreams have come true. Dreams are just like the beacon standing in the destination that bright and lead your way to success and cheer you up when you are tired.

If dreams are the beacon then pragmatic behavior would be the boat which takes you to the destination. Practical behavior is the kind of behavior which is effective and always compatible with the rule of the human nature as well as the physical world. To accomplish something, we need act practically.  It is just like that we have a blue print of a our dream house, we couldn’t conjure it out like Harry Potter in a second, but we can build it brick by brick using our hands. Successes in all fields were achieved by pragmatic behavior. To found a democratic country and to be independent from England, Civil War was taken during which hundreds of lives were lost.  To earn equality and respect, Martin Luther King made great effort even lost his life to weak up the justice deep inside everyone’s heart. Without the pragmatic behavior, the numerous experiments, Edison couldn’t invent lamp.  Without hard lab work, biologists wouldn’t find antibiotics.  In one word, one could not succeed without acting practically.

Do you have a dream?  Do you want a better life? Do you want to find your power and your talent that you have never known? If the answers are yes, just let your dream lead you and act soon.

It seems the argument is well presented, but some fatal mistakes are found in the line of reasoning. By comparing Mira Vista College, which 70% of its graduates found jobs and 50% of them were working in areas related with their majors after graduation last year, with Green Mountain College, which offers more business courses and has more career counselors and therefore 90% of its graduates found satisfied jobs in the job market, the suggestion of the president of Mira Vista College that providing more business courses and hiring more career counselors sounds reasonable.

However, the president forgets to consider the alternative reasons for the relatively lower employment percentage. One of these is that the quality of graduates contributes a lot when looking for a job. Are their graduates well qualified as those of Green Mountain College? If the answer is no, then Mira Vista College should to take measures as soon as possible to improve the teaching quality of its instructors, to incite its students pursue truth and knowledge in their major field, to encourage and help them find internships in the practical field outside of college, as well as to improve its mechanical plant, libraries, facilities etc. This way would be the right one to enhance the students’ competitiveness rather than offering more business courses.

The other one is that maybe the overall ranking of Mira Vista College is far behind that of the Green Mountain College, and there is no way to change this in a short time. Therefore, the comparison making by Mira Vista’s president doesn’t have any sense. Perhaps 70% employment is already the best performance it ever has and is much higher than that of the other colleges ranking similar. Even if they both enjoy equally reputation, it could be possible that they are oriented in different fields. Such as Green Mountain College is famous in its MBA program in business school and Mira Vista College actually is a medical school. If this is true, by following the president’s suggestion, will a student majored in Biomedical with poor GPA and lab experience be more competitive in job market after taking several business courses? I am afraid not.

Moreover, even both of them are focused on the same discipline, they might differ in the size of student population, the number of faculties and programs etc. It is entirely possible that the ratio of career counselor to students is higher in Mira Vista than in Green Mountain. Whereas the total number of career counselor is smaller in Mira Vista, if MV is a small college while GM is a big one. The same is true for the number of business courses to be offered. Following my line of reasoning, MV provides fewer programs than that of GM, but number of courses are given in each program is more than that of GM. There would be no sense taking the president’s advice to hire more career counselor as well as provide more business courses in order to increase employment rate.  
   
In addition, the president fails to realize that the digital data upon which his reasoning is built does not mean anything. The reported 70% might be not the real portion of its overall graduates who have been successfully found jobs, it is entirely possible that not everyone informed placement office after they got jobs. Thus, the 70% of employment is not meaningful and couldn’t serve as an evidence to support the president’s suggestion. Moreover, 50% of the graduates did not work in major related areas doesn’t mean they were refused by the suitable job positions, maybe they changed their mind to do something else or continued their study in graduate school.

Overall, the president fails to grab the underlying truth of this phenomenon. To offer better and meaningful suggestions, the president needs to analyze the reason why its graduates are not as popular as that of the GM. And then provide rational suggestion based on comparison and further analysis.

好几天没写了，但是这几天没有偷懒哦。今天改了分配给我的６篇文章，竟然花了将近１２个小时，有感于自己的低效！改文章还真是难哦
