"It is often necessary, even desirable, for political leaders to withhold information from the public."
I concede to agree with the assertion that sometimes it is necessary for political leaders to withhold information from the public. Admittedly, some information should had better be kept as secret for many reasons. However, the political leaders shouldn't cheat the public on some pretext or other. It is also necessary for political leaders to keep the public knowing what they should know. We must not allow our political leaders’ undue freedom to withhold information.
Should the political leaders be complete honesty to the public? I strongly agree with that it is often necessary, and even desirable, for political leaders to withhold the information from the public. Although letting the public to hold the whole information from the government could accelerate the society’s developing in some degree, more often than not, it is counterproductive to achieving the goal which the leaders desire for to let the public to know free to the political policies or other information.
I concede that the speaker is on the correct side of the issue. After all, every social for mation needs the leaders that who could gain and maintain the most parts of authority. In the game of politics, the government told more to the public, the public often will be more suspicious of the government; as a result, the society will be become more complicated. For example, when the government find that there is a group of terrorists or drug traffickers around some certain area, if they told the public the trues trategies of catching these terrorists and drug traffickers, those strategies would surly fail, and the public would feel like that their health and safety would be threatened as the result, then the level of the trust from the public to the political leaders would be certainly brought down.
Another reason for my fundamental agreement with the speaker is that in order to protect the public on a high level. if the government is less openness and transparent, withholding some information would do bad effect to the society, the society may become more stable and ordered.Even "the right to know" is very often denied by the authority or neglected by the public themselves, which does harm to the society as a whole. For instance, the secret of country’s army, new kinds of artillery, equipment, instrument, etc, is no need to be transparent to the public. If everybody can get the information of the whole country, the other countries will gain such precious information without payment and earn a huge profit easily if it is known to the public, which also does harm to the society at the same time.
Although the political leaders have rights to withhold some information, but the government is often necessary to serve the information of the public in some certain time. Through the earnest study of the mankind history we can know that the political states whose authority stems from suppression of government freedoms invariably fall of their oppressive weight. The political leaders should let the public know what they should know, including the tax rates; how the government spend the tax from the public; how will the president manage the international affairs. If the public could hold the necessary information, the country well be well governed by the majority of its population instead of political leaders.
In sum, Honestyis certainly an indispensable virtue for every common person, not tomention those politicians. Actually, the character of a successfulpolitical leader goes beyond only being honest. Selected by and servingfor the public, effective leaders have to be responsible for boththemselves and the society.Despite that there are many reasons for the political leaders to withhold information from the public, such as the safety of a country, the method of the public and efficiency of some actions, the public still have right to know the truth. After all, a country is built up by the public and they should be told of factors they should know such as the usage of the finance and activities of government which shouldn't be kept as secrets.
