The speaker asserts that the artist gives society something of lasting value. While this assertion has merit, I think it unfairly generalized about critic. The critics also bring us a lot of information about the works of arts that he/she evaluates.

Turning first to the definition of art, it is art,which comes from people’s taste of life , thoughts in their deep hearts and the core that is turth ,good and beauty in the world ,which everyone pursues. It is because of the reason that works of arts have got their value,and that make the artists who create the art works give soceity something of last value.This gives little cause of criticism.

However,reflecting on this statement makes clear that the art critic autually offers help to the works of arts.Many critics who are also the artists in their realm understand the art,they have certain insights about the art works, which may provide feedback for the art works.It taken to heart can result in better and mature works.So the value of art works could show more adequate room to we audience by interpreting of the critics.
Like the film’The Da Vinci Code’,the story made people confused and unacceptable.The critic of this film explained a lot of background of the story,which help us understand the whole storyline and the film spread all over the world.


On the other hand,many critics’evaluation of art works help us understand the deep meaning of the art work.Knowing much more about the immanent value ,we determine to last the value of art works. For example, Van Gogh, the most influential artist in Europe,his work could not receive contemporary appreciation and comprehension. But he created the impressionism on painting, which was accepted many years after his death. Can we say that it was not the funtion of the critics that made his works drawed our attention?

In sum, the artist,through his/her works of arts,provides an invaluable and unique mirror of the culture of time during his period. The critic does a serive to people an society by evaluating the works of arts.They together give society something of lasting value.
