Issue157: There is no such thing as purely objective observation. All observation is subjective; it is always guided by the observer’s expectations or desire.
纯粹的客观是不存在的。所有的观察都是主观的;观察总是被观察者的预期或喜好所左右。

Looking around the whole world, it’s not hard for us to see that observation has been part of our life throughout history. The conclusions or theories which are based on observation are always more reliable than those predicted. However, has it ever occurred to you that observation is not very objective at all? As for me, I strongly agree with the speaker’s assertion that purely objective observation has never existed. In other words, observation which is handled by human beings inclines to involve more or less the speaker’s personal ideas.
Observation can hardly get rid of the observer’s personal expectations or desires. As a result, there are always various opinions about the same event in our daily life. For instance, the distinguished Chinese actress Ziyi Zhang has acted a Japanese geisha in a real Hollywood blockbuster “Memoirs of a geisha” which boosted her career in America. However, different voices can be heard from the mass media in China: some thought that we should take pride of Ziyi Zhang for her entering the mainstream of Hollywood while others hold the opinion that it is ashamed to play a Japanese geisha as the most famous Chinese actress. You know, everyone has different academic backgrounds and life experiences and all these would make a strong impact on a person when drawing a conclusion. Maybe it could explain why China’s accession to WTO can be so disputable. As we all know, by entering WTO our country could get the most favored nation treatment without the permission of America and it’s also good for our export trade. On the other hand, the more and more fierce competition after entering WTO would lead many Chinese traditional industries to bankruptcy. From the phenomenon, the positions we stand determine the way we view an event.
It goes the same when it comes to the arts field. It is easy for us to find out that the artists’ styles are mostly based on the background of the society and family. So we can see gloomy and anxiety in the works of most 19th century French writer, such as Victor Hugo, Stendhal, and Flaubert. The classical “Pride and Prejudice” tells a beautiful love story in the countryside of England where Jane Austen grew up. Artists produce arts works aim at recording or reflecting the reality of the society, but their observation about the society unavoidably involve their own experience which help to form their expectations and desires.
Perhaps you will claim that the observations in science are purely objective due to scientists use logic reasoning and technology to observe. If so, how can you explain the mistakes through the history of science, like geocentric theory, perpetual motion machine and so on? The reason of these mistakes is that when the scientists analyze a phenomenon they often involve their own expectations or even imaginations.
To sum up, observation as the most common activity is affected by various factors which prevent it from being purely objective. As the foregoing reasons, no matter which field you are in your observation would be subjective. However, as the development of hi-tech, the scientific observation would be more and more objective in the future.

Looking around the whole world, it’s not hard for us to see that observation has been part of our life throughout history. The conclusions or theories which are based on observation are always more reliable than those predicted.这句话我没打大看懂,你是想说建立在观察上的结论比预测更加可靠吗? However, has it ever occurred to you that observation is not very objective at all? As for me, I strongly agree with the speaker’s assertion that purely objective observation has never existed. In other words, observation which is handled by human beings inclines to involve more or less the speaker’s personal ideas.

From the phenomenon, the oppositions we stand determine the way we view an event.
