Scandal, a kind of negative allegation, is a double-edged sword in my eyes. On the one hand, it can be useful in calling the public attention in some area, where scandal itself is a symbolic process of democracy; On the other hand, scandal can be harmful if people's attention just meets their curious ends and cynical attitude toward those alleged events, without positive consciousness.

To begin with, it is true that scandals expose some facts that cannot be seen in other ways for the speakers and reformers have to take responsibility for their public affairs. Because scandals mostly spring out from the negative aspects, which are usually shadowed for some secrets, the public always have a huge interest in discover the truth. These scandals, usually covered by the government and some authorities, reveal the vice business about money, sex, and credit and power. When the speakers and reformers can not deal with these problems, the public opinions, which the scandals bring, can be the key to solve them. For example, the Iraq war made by the Push's Government, caused a mass of parade against battle, is defined as a big failure and scandal. The Push's government alleges that Iraq own the weapons of mass destructions (WMD), and then start the war against Saddam Government for their profits about petroleum. The pretext about the WMD has been testified totally wrong after the war. And the public opinion has made the US government accept the meaningless action, which leads too much economic lose and casualties.

However, sometimes the scandals bewilder the public and overemphasize their fault. Because of the bad effects on the society, the public are often too indignant accusing the scandal parties to neglect to make any contribution in preventing the same scandals happen again. For example, after Woo suk Hwang's cloning experiments are defined as a fake academic scandal, there still exist lots of academic scandals. The public pays much attention to Hwang, using newspapers and Internet to attack him, but ignore to make measures to stop the academic cheats. Such scandals serve no useful purpose and distract the public from more pressing social problems. The speakers and reformers, like the governments, need to stand out to point the correct way at this time.

Apart from the public confusion, scandals also blind the society to reach the truth when they are used by some people. For example, the case of Michael Jackson' catamite has been proved nonexistence after MJ died, but it has caused a huge impact on MJ and the public. At that time, for extorting money, the innocent boy is guided by someone else to accuse MJ. The tabloids, which like to create explosive news, make lots to fake evidence to rebuke MJ. The public are misguided to the truth, which leads MJ's failure on career. Such scandals do harm the society, and we should be careful to establish the facts relating to them before making any judgments.

To sum up, scandals are admitted to being useful to society with positive efforts of many social roles including speakers and reformers. But sometimes it do distract the public opinion and even conceal the truth. We should think clear to judge the facts no matter it is served by the speakers or the scandals.
