The names of Van Gogh, Monet, Da Vinci are shining in the dome of the hall called human history. Their works are amazing us all the form such as the Monalisa Smile, Impression: sunrise, Venus de Milo. Art is derived from human's nature desire of beauty and art can inform us with a sense of beauty, and bring a great sum of profit.

The function of government is to ensure that we enjoy a life with abundant material wealth and with high inspirations. From my point of view, funding art can fulfill both these goals.

Seeing the beauty of a painting, we feel as if we have seen the beam come from another spiritual world. Appreciating art will give us a lot of pleasure. Listening to an splendid opera, watching an excellent movie, appreciating a touching novel will give us a sense of beauty and satisfaction. We feel we are drawn out of the world full of pragmatic ambitions and mean competitions. Our mind will relax and we will be recharged to face tomorrow's challenges. For me, after a day's study, to listening to the symphony of Beethoven is great. I think art composes a crucial part of our life. It is the harbor of our spirit, the Eden of our soul. Moreover, besides spiritual function, art can also help improve the economy. In these days, since the pace of life is quicker and the competitions are fiercer, the need of spiritual product is soaring. People need books, movies, paintings, operas, and music to soothe their mind, to inspire their mind. The Harry Potter series has been sold more than 1 billion sheets, the income of the newly published movie Transformer II also exceed $30,000,000. CDs sell more than 1,000,000,000 around the world. The product of art is in urgent demand now. Japanese Government is one of the examples who help improve the revenue by propelling the development of its Comic, or Manga, Industry. In a world with highly developed matter production, we now pay more attention to our spirit. Thus funding art industry will bring a great deal of profit and this is one of the government's tasks.

However, private investors should team up with the government in investing in art. To fully invest in all kinds of art, the government will impose a rather heavy tax on the citizens while the private investor can sustain himself and earn a lot of profit from investment. The government cannot help every writer publish his/her book, or help every singer publish the latest songs, or every painter the masterpieces. Thus the development of the art can go on a self-sustain way and produce product with high quality.

In conclusion, in times of efficiency, we live under great pressures and we need art to help us to be energetic when confronted with the challenges of life. And the government should also cooperate with the private investors to fund the art because it can bring a lot of profit.
