Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet individual needs and interests of each student.
This speaker asserts that only sacrificing interest of individual would education be effective. Admittedly, in this age which worshiped personality we cannot ignores interest exerts great influence on education today. For the students losing interest is equal to losing the energy of exploring knowledge and the enthusiasm of struggling. Neither less, establishing education system according to individual interest is not practical in the modern society.
Children are willing and enthusiasm about learning. All children are curious about the world around them and would like to explore all the possibilities that awaited them. The famous political Edmund Burke said" The first and simplest emotion which we discover in the human mind, is curiosity." An education system that can take into accounts the specific needs and interests of each student will help the students to full develop their distinct potential and talent. In such an educational system, students, feeling centered and appreciated, will be more motivated to study. As for the importance of interest, society is replete with examples of interest benefits. Losing interest, Chen xingshen who span 60 years on kingdom the mathematic never dedicate his life to it till his last moment of life. Losing interest, Ding junhui never practice his billiards skill enduring more than 10 hours alone. Losing interest, Jacken-chen whose age is more than 50 years maybe playing the action movie gives way to participate commercial performance.
Despite interest is benefit for the education, we still do not take for granted that the more specifically designed education one can get according to his own needs and interest, the more effective it will turn out, since compared with tremendous number of students our education recourse is limited, even serious. The more specific education, the higher the cost is, and the more capitals government invest. We will cite an ostensible example, university entrance examination in Jiangsu province in China where the students of this area adept choosing subjects of exam according to their own interest. One student maybe has 13 choices to join this exam. Specific subjects lead to the disorder of judging the students. Same score do not stand for same style of knowledge. The most worse is that the high school has to employ more teachers such as history. “Interest exam "leads to the complex of education, which is no effective.
The second reason which we cannot adept education is designed by interest is diversification of society. Even if education recourses abound, specifically designed education should not take place of traditional general education. In one side, young students have not enough ability to judge which course is useful because their few social, the most possibility is that the subject in which he is not interests serves as this ability and knowledge which the society needs. In the other side, the aim of education, especially high education, is to provide complete structure of knowledge and to promote students overall development. If a student who majors in international trade only focus on theory ignoring the practice, any companies cannot employ him since they do not need a theorist. Interest education should base on the overall education.
Although complete liberty in designing education is not available to all individual students, schools can try their best to offer more choices and autonomy to students as long as the quality of compulsory education is guaranteed. For example, for the students interesting in the history, the school should have some research programs about the history, thereby meet the need of them. For the student liking art, the school should hold the concert giving them opportunity to display. Interest education, as a replenish, is benefit to the compulsory education.
Though complete designed education is no way, we cannot ignore the benefit of interest. We should explore the new way of education that designed education and compulsory education are inseparably associated. Losing any aspects our education will be effective. |
