193: The Department of Education in the state of Attra recommends that high school students be assigned homework every day. Yet a recent statewide survey of high school math and science teachers calls the usefulness of daily homework into question. In the district of Sanlee, 86 percent of the teachers reported assigning homework three to five times a week, whereas in the district of Marlee, less than 25 percent of the teachers reported assigning homework three to five times a week. Yet the students in Marlee earn better grades overall and are less likely to be required to repeat a year of school than are the students in Sanlee. Therefore, all teachers in our high schools should assign homework no more than twice a week, if at all.

In this argument, the arguer concludes that all teachers in our high schools should assign homework no more than twice a week. To justify the conclusion, the arguer cites a survey and the data show that do less home work can earn better grades. It is true that the Marlee, do less is consistent with the survey, but the argument suffers from several flaws such as cause-effect fallacies which render it unconvincing.
The majority problem with the argument is that the result of the survey lacks credibility, because the arguer fails to include teachers in other subjects. These statics were only based on the data from Maree’s teachers. Lacking the data of other teachers, the arguer could not lend strong support to what the arguer maintains.
Moreover, the arguer overlooks the total number of the teacher while only points out the results. Without the total number, the survey is meaningless.
In addition, another problem is the arguer fails to make the casual relationship between the fact that the teacher reduces the homework and the fact that students performance well.
Perhaps the students earn batter grade result from their hardness in other aspects, besides, perhaps their test is noting with the homework, therefore no matter how much the homework is has no influence on the score. Granted that the mere fact that students with less homework can get a good mark in Marlee, it does not mean that students in Attra will benefit similarly from it, perhaps there are many differences in the homework styles of the two states. So the arguer cannot convince us that less homework can improve the scores.

Last but not least, the arguer commits a fallacy of false analogy. The arguer simply equates Attra as Sanlee. For instance, the quality of the study between the two states are different and the facilities are also not the same, perhaps one is better than the other, Furthermore, The two state may use different way to test the students, perhaps in Sanlee, students use computer for competition while teachers in Attra
ask students to take part in the social practice and hand a paper for test. So Without provided more evidence to illustrate that Attra as Sanlee are the same, the arguer cannot convince us that Attra can improve the education through decreasing the homework.
In sum, the survey which the arguer cites proves nothing about the homework and grade.
In order to strengthen the argument; the arguer has to provide more evidence to better assess the representative about the study, on one hand the arguer should adding the number of teachers and . Moreover, the arguer should not neglect the different between Sanlee and Marlee.
