The speaker asserts that  looking back for an understanding of the past provides little guidance for living in the present because today is much newer and more complex. I find this assertion to be one-sided. As far as I am concerned, while the current society has been quite different from the past one, a thorough understanding of the past is still necessary.

Looking through the history of human being, the society is always in a constant state of flux. Especially in today's world, there are novel things coming into our life nearly everyday which have never been thought of before and can hardly be used according to the experience already known. After all, our experience are based on the previous situation which have already been washed out. As a typical example, shopping through the Internet, which is very popular among the young generation in recent thirty years, is a totally original shopping method. When one wants to buy a shirt through the Internet, his or her traditional experience, such as directly checking the quality of the cloth or put it on to have a look, can hardly work. This example can clearly demonstrate that previous experience getting from the past seems not to be effective directly in current society which is newer and more complex.

However, in some fields, history repeats itself, which means we can predict the future condition through careful investigation of the past. In such condition, looking back is not only helpful but also obligatory. A supportive example to strengthen my view is the law of price which means the price of commodity fluctuate around its value. According to this law, one can easily predict the trend of future price and alter his or her plan of trade by a thoroughly study of the past. Even the international trade between two countries in line with this law. Thus, besides detecting the bottom line of the other country, the business consultancy of one nation must find out useful information from history as much as possible.

In addition, even if one could not get help from the past directly, a good understanding of the history is still helpful. Although current society like the past in no way, the basic method of solving problems never change. Today's world is totally different from the one of Hegel, but his dialectic is still being used in many aspects; today's society have entirely changed from the one of Aesop, but his fables are still used in children education. What's more, what we learn from the history is not only the direct experience but also the spirit which can encourage us to overcome obstacles.  Reading the history of Word War II, one can regain the spirit of patriotism and the history of French Revolution can teach one to pursue freedom continuously.

Just as Whinston Churchill once said (and I paraphrase): We see the future as far as we see the past. Even though I concede that modern world have changed a lot and become newer and more complex, but history still provide guidance for living in the present for it can predict the future and spur our courage.

LZ下次最好先列一下提纲,这样改起来比较清楚。
本文的观点不是很明晰,主观点段的例子说服力欠佳,让步的那段有点抢了风头。
有些语言和用词值得学习。
