161.In a study of reading habits of Leeville citizens conducted by the University of Leeville, most respondents said they preferred literary classics as reading material. However, a follow-up study conducted by the same researchers found that the type of book most frequently checked out of each of the public libraries in Leeville was the mystery novel. Therefore, it can be concluded that the respondents in the first study had misrepresented their reading habits.

By contrasting two surveys on Leeville(L) citizen's reading habits, the conclusion seem apparent and logically built. However, the arguer merely scathed the surface of these phenomena by claim so. The flaws are discussed as below.

First, the arguer seem simplified the process of the first survey. For example, he didn't provide with us the exact number of the theaters and where they are limited to a special group or region. Perhaps the investigation was merely conducted in the club of the experience sharing of reading literary books, or it is conducted among the students in literature academy, where most of students will read the literary classics whether out of compulsory or their own wishes.

In addition, the arguer fails to role out who these respondents are. Most often than not, those who read literary classics may have a sense of self-recognition that make them more willing to answer such questions than those do not. In this context, the number of people remaining silence may take a large part, which will unavoidably reduce the power of the survey. What is more, the question actually asked in this survey may be leading in some degree, such as a selective one: Between literary classics and critic commentary, which one do you prefer? Obviously most people cannot help but to choice the former. Should any of the scenario discussed above occur, the survey will fail to its compelling strength.

In reviewing the second survey, one must first identify the scope of literary classis and mystery novel. As far as I am concerned, there can be a large overlapping part. For instance, "A Tale of Two Cities" and "Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" can be included in both of the two scopes. And, it is entirely possible among the people who like literary classics will prefer the mystery fraction, thus the "frequently checked out of" mystery novel will not suffice to bespeak that people are misrepresenting. Besides, people's tendency to burrow mystery novels may just illustrate the point that the prefer to buy and reserve the literary books for further reading while the mystery ones is not worthy buying. Also, there are other possibilities, say, mystery novels dominates in these libraries while the number of library ones is quite few or this survey was conducted during a time when a certain mystery novel was prevailing. Therefore, though mystery novel seems more frequently borrowed, this may not lead to the assertion that people actually prefer these categories.

Still, the arguer did not provide any information concerning the length of term between these surveys, which might be so long that the reading habits of citizen here have changed a lot, then the claim that reading habits had been misrepresent is certainly not true.

开头简洁值得我学习

Perhaps the investigation was merely conducted in the club of the experience sharing of reading literary books, or it is conducted among the students in literature academy, where most of students will read the literary classics whether out of compulsory or their own wishes(这个观点好,我没想到).

Seem:
1.
sb. seem to do sth.

2.
sb./sth
seem +adj+to do sth

3.
It seems +that/as if
