"Scholars and researchers should not be concerned with whether their work makes a contribution to the larger society. It is more important that they pursue their individual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic those interests may seem."

Text body:
I fundamentally agree with the proposition that scholars and researchers should forget about whether their work makes a great contribution to the larger society, the more important is whether they want to pursue their personal interests, I think, should put more focus on them.

At the first beginning, we should put too much emphasis on the valve of the interests for scholars and researchers. The primarily task for them is to get their researches finished.
Nowadays, people intend to pay more attention on those who will make more significant contribution to the larger society, while, those make small achievements which are closely relevant to our daily may be ignored by vast people. Obviously, there is negative phenomenon existing that unbalancing treatment for the different guide of research, and ultimately will be the obstacle for most scholars and researchers’ path leading to the triumph. We have to right to judge the value of the research.

However, seen for the reality, it is true that those disciplines can apply to practical uses can get more funds, such as law and business. If they succeed in their research, it can apply it to the reality in a short period of time. Therefore, many scholars are willing to work researches like that. Motivating by profits, people sometimes become too fickle to devoting their whole enthusiasms to their original researches. There is no denying the facts that each one has its own thought, especially, when talking about profits, people are more likely to shit to their beneficial aspects.

On the other hand, if researchers and scholars devote into their interests, they are more easily to get their destination. By human nature we are more motivated to pursue those activities which we excel. Take Thomas Edison for example, not for Edison’s sustained work, we wouldn’t have benefited so much from his marvelous inventions. No one can deny the value of inventions Edison made for the world people around.

Thus, as I have mentioned above, we may safely draw a conclusion that we should not put too much emphasis or concerns on researchers and scholars’ works. There is also no need to judge whether is worthwhile for them when they are devoting themselves on their interests. I quite agree with that no matter how unusual or idiosyncratic interests are, the pivotal thing is to get it done.
