题目:ARGUMENT162 - A recent study shows that people living on the continent of North America suffer 9 times more chronic fatigue and 31 times more chronic depression than do people living on the continent of Asia. Interestingly, Asians, on average, eat 20 grams of soy per day, whereas North Americans eat virtually none. It turns out that soy contains phytochemicals called isoflavones, which have been found to possess disease-preventing properties. Thus, North Americans should consider eating soy on a regular basis as a way of preventing fatigue and depression.

Merely based on the unfound assumption and suspicious evidence, the arguer advocates that North Americans should consider eating soy on a regular basis as a way of preventing fatigue and depression. To clarify, he, or she, cites a study demonstrating that people in North America suffer more Chroic depression and chronic fatigue than Asians who eat more soy per day, on average. Besides, the arguer also points out an evidence that isoflavones found in soy are provided to possess disease-preventing properties. This argument appears at first sight to be somewhat persuasive and reasonable, but further reflection indicates that in omits some substantial concerns which render it logically unconvincing and potentially problematic as it stands. From the logical perspective, this argument suffers from 3 major logical flaws.

First and foremost, a threshold problem with the argument involves a causal relationship between eating soy and less fatigue and depression. Entirely possible though is this assumption, the arguer commits a fallacy of oversimplification and even fails to offer any persuasive evidence to substantiate it. It is most likely that the arguer overlooks the possibility the former had nothing to do with the latter, or other factors than the former were instead responsible for the latter. An appropriate example is not very far to seek. It is most likely that a myriad of other factors such as ---environment, dietary, and genetic---has serves to less fatigue other than eating soy. It is even possible that the Americans are more comparatively likely to
incur fatigue and depression due to the fact that pressure form work and life is heavier in America. To reach the cited conclusion, the arguer must justifiably account for and eliminate these and other alternative explanations.

In the second place, the recommendation rests on a hasty assumption that isoflavones in the soy can prevent fatigue and depression because they are found to possess disease-preventing properties. Nevertheless, the arguer does not supply any evidence to confirm this assumption. It is obviously that the arguer unfairly equates the former and the latter. There is two compelling examples. Perhaps the isoflavones could prevent other diseases but not the fatigue and depression. For that matter, they would even result in fatigue and depression. Until the arguer can convince me with further evidence to exclude all these concerns, it is unfounded to definitely assess the author's broader contention and bolster the recommendation.

Last but not least, even if the evidence turns out to substantiate all of the foregoing assumptions, the additional assumption that eating soy will ensure an essentially similar result to help Americans prevent fatigue and depression is still dubious as it stands, because common sense informs me that this evidence is far too vague to support the editorial's conclusion. It is obviously that the sort of factors ,about eating soy, mentioned above
might have contribute to the less fatigue and depression in Asia but would not come into play in the America. To the reason, abundant further and typical cases may be added. For instance, the differences about gene between the Americans and Asians may serve to unfamiliar reflection about the soy.Perhaps the Americans cannot absorb the benefit elements such as isoflavones so fast and efficiently as Asians do. Any of these scenarios, if true, would serve to undermine the claim and harm the author's proposal.

In sum, the arguer fails to constitute a logical argument to substantiate his claim that the measure, eating soy, would make the same result in America as in Asia, because the evidence cited in the analysis does not lend strong support to what the argument maintains. In or due to strengthen and better evaluate the argument, further investigation and analysis are needed to account for that isoflavones do have the properties in preventing fatigue and depression. Additionally, the arguer should cite more evidence to eliminate other possible reasons talked above why Asians are low in fatigue and depression and the differences between the two areas.
In short, the argument would have been more valid and logically acceptable, if it involves the given evidences discussed above and further assumption.
