Should laws be rigid or fixed? The speaker does not agree with it, claiming that laws should be flexible enough to take account of various circumstances, times, and places. I am inclined to support the stand view of the speaker that laws can never be always unchangeable in such a changing society. In the following discussion, I will present evidence to support my point of view.
In the first place, laws, existing to face all the circumstances, should be adaptable enough so that they would be still working well when society changes, some of which we even cannot imagine before. It is the improvements that make the laws real laws. Take the computer virus as an example. If laws responses late to the computer virus, which can lead to a new storm of a computer crime and make the whole society whose economy, commerce, and even people's lives laying on the computer trapped in the problems, how messy would our society be? So laws need to be flexible enough to prevent us all from the unexpected society disaster.
In the second place, laws have to be very fair, when it comes to the conflicts between like laws and morals, laws and emotions, after considering various factors and situations. A moving shot from the famous movie "The Terminal" that Victor saves the medicine which is supposed to save a person's life from the cruel border director by just changing a word wisely did move us so much. So the probable way, in which we could find a balance point when we meet with all conflicts, needs laws and us both to be flexible enough to take account of them.
Admittedly, the executing of the laws must be strict so that the justice will be protected. Only in case of that the government keeps everybody equal in front of the laws and makes the strict executions possible does there exist a civilized society. No one will live in a country with people escaping from punishments just because of his status and property. In short, laws must be rigid and fixed in justice, which are the born characters of them.
To sum up, I concede the speaker's claim and due to the evidence and reasons mentioned above, we may safely arrive at the conclusion that we needs flexible laws, wise executers, and the most important part, justice, to make our changing society a better one.
