I concede that teaching staff ought to work outside colleges and universities in their fields is beneficial to the quality of instruction. However, we cannot make generalizations on this problem. In fact, it does not apply to all branches of learning.

Primarily, teaching stuff's working outside school is beneficial to both the professors and students. By working outside colleges and universities, the professors can keep in touch with the latest development in their field which would stimulate their interests in research, and broaden their fields of vision. For students, the professors' introduction which combines the theory and practice together will enable the students to make a better understanding of the knowledge in class, and get information that cannot be maintained from textbooks. What's more, this will help students to lay the foundation for future career. Take architecture design for example, professors in architecture are encouraged to bring in projects to school. By doing this, they will keep pace with the popular trend in this field. Moreover, sometimes students are allowed to take part in the design too, during their process of helping professors finish the project, their design standard will improve rapidly by learning more design skills. Thus, professors' working outside colleges is beneficial as I said above.

However, does that mean all faculties should work outside school as the speaker suggests? There can be never one answer to this question. As is known to all, education can be divided into two parts. One is to impart the students of professional skills; this kind of subject includes medical science, finance and banking, and architecture which are mentioned above. While the other, includes philosophy, mathematics, physics and so on, is to train students' ability of Independent thinking, creativity and so forth. The former one requires the professors to participate in some real work rather than sitting in the offices doing research everyday. However, the latter one requires the professor concentrate on researches. Thus, lab in colleges and universities are the best place for practice. Working outside school is not necessary. A physicist understanding of the universe won't be deeper after he spends ten years on designing computers which is obviously physics related job.
Additionally, as some of the subjects are not suitable for the method mentioned above, there may be a phenomenon in colleges and universities that professors of basic subjects are unable to work outside school while the other professor can. This will bring unfairness to the professor if basic subjects, for they don't have chance to earn more money. And it will affect their study by distract their time and energy and product an exactly opposite result on this problem.
Therefore, I suggest colleges and universities pay attention to this problem, and may solve it by increase the wages of them.

In conclusion, we need to encourage professors to work outside school for it does bring much benefit to the instruction, and at the same time, the basic subject could not do the same, colleges and universities should pay emphasis on them by improving their research equipment and pay them more wages to ensure their concentration on study.
