130"How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."
------------------------------[Words: 527]
The claim virtually involves two claims and neither of them is appropriate in the light of my insight. Destiny of society is so intricate that none of us can predict, let alone that children's socialization determines the society. Apart from that, we cannot definitely say "unfortunately" in that the speaker lacks vision insofar as concrete evidences to recognize the advancement of the society.
The destiny of society is difficult to predict and cannot be readily determined by individual person, specific union, exclusive authority, even all of the above-mentioned associated together, combined with many other groups or leagues, cannot direct the society to the expectant orientation in that unforeseen accidents may break out unexpectedly. Some prospective plans may be damaged by natural force. Consider the huge earthquake shocked on May 12th, in Wenchuan City, Sichuan Province, People Republic of China, while Chinese government designed a new economic project in Sichuan Province, hoping to fuel the undeveloped southwest realm, comparative to the southeast, Chinese most developed domain. Yet the tremendous earthquake nearly pulled down the whole city, as well as the cities nearby and cities in other provinces, which brought about enormous loss. No matter how powerful the authority is, the earthquake cannot be prevented. Another example is "911". It is arduous to predict and prohibit Laden's plan to strike the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Therefore, the destiny of society cannot be easily determined.
Even we concede the determination is feasible, we cannot simply direct our community by children's socialization. Socialization, in some degree, indicates that children should learn their culture, custom, rules of the society and also adapt to the society no matter what the society looks like. Children means the next generation, which will be the pillar of the nation. Although the future of the world will be conducted by them, how a child will be twenty or thirty years later cannot be determined simply by socialization. Numerous impacts on children will also influence children's logic, reason, emotion such as the environment of the children's growth, the education children take, parents' exemplars. These diverse components are the influential factors which will direct what a child will shape. Now that socialization is not the only element influencing a child, the speaker's assertion is insufficient of evidences.
Consider the next claim the speaker asserts, the word "unfortunately" is inappropriate. Clearly, the authority is always trying to educate our children, the pillar of the state in the future. The integration of State University of New York System (SUNY), the increase of fellowship and educational fund, the additional opportunities for jobs, all indicate the effort the government makes to raise children's knowledge, capacities, chances and so forth. Maybe there still exists vast space children can be spurred in the light of the government, yet the statement "unfortunately" is irresponsible.
To sum up, the speaker ignores sundry and assorted causes which will also steer the destiny of society. Although socialization of children do impact on future society, it is not the only element. We should also be aware of the government's action of promotion of our children. They also know the pillar of the state should depend on them.
