While some leaders in government, sports, industry, and other areas attribute their success to a well-developed sense of competition, a society can better prepare its young people for leadership by instilling in them a sense of cooperation.【46】

Which is more important for the leadership in modern society, a sense of cooperation or a sense of competition? The speaker advocates the former, while some leaders in a variety of different fields support the latter. Different from both the two opinions, I argue that young people in modern society, preparing to be leaders, must possess both the two abilities simultaneously.

The first reason for my assertion of indispensability of a sense of competition for the leadership is that it is a basic ability for everyone to survive in our human society. As known to all, the human society we all exist in, like the nature, is based on the fundamental principle that the superior win while the inferior wash out. For instance, we human are the distinct product of this principle. Analyzing carefully, we can found out that the essence of this principle is to struggle for the limited resource in the world, especially the superior resource, such as leadership. Thus, as different parts of the whole society, all the kinds of fields are full of competition, with none exceptional, such as politicians’ competition for the membership of the council, employees’ competition for the position of manager. Accordingly, a sense of competition is necessary/indispensable for all the people, to say nothing of those keen to be leaders.
The second reason why I insist on the necessity of a sense of competition for the leadership is that all of one’s potentials can be simulated into reality by keeping the sense. For one thing, in the process of competition for leadership, one might discriminate clearly his own and others’ advantages and disadvantages, through comparing oneself with other competitors. Consequently, having definite targets, one would concentrate on improving his own flaws as well as learning others’ merits. For another thing, an adage said: "Unless one undertakes more than he possibly can do, he will never do all he can do." Deep cogitation would reveal the true meaning of this adage: only through the way challenging himself with what looks impossible, could a person, eager to dig out all his potentials, achieve his goal. Therefore, in order to become a successful leader, one must always take hard challenges, which, to a large extent, means one must always keep a sense of competition.
Yet, like a sense of competition, a sense of cooperation is also indispensable for one to become a successful leader. In the first place, not only does a leader have to lead his group to contend with other groups of the same field, but he also need guide his group to collaborate with various groups of different fields. In modern society, especially in high-technology domain, industry chain has formed. For example, in information industry field, an entire chain includes software design corporations, hardware design corporations, service corporations, device manufactory, etc. In order to struggle against other corporations of the same kind and earn more profits, corporations of different kinds will cooperate with each other. For instance, as known to all, Microsoft, the greatest corp. in the domain of operating system leaded by Bill Gates and Intel, the most famous corp. in the field of PC CPU, have combined for more than ten years. As a result, the two companies earn a greatest part of profits in relevant fields. As a matter of fact, the cooperation ability of the two companies’ directors makes a chief contribution to the combination.
In the second place, in the more and more complicated modern society, competitions, among groups of various fields, are usually based on the accurate cooperation among the members of the same group. Thus, the leader, playing the greatest important role in the cooperation within his group, must maintain an intense sense of cooperation and dedicate to coordinate all the interconnections smoothly, as well as to solve diverse kinds of collaboration problems. For instance, in modern society, large-scale software development usually needs thousands of programmers to work together, in which a manager with affluent software knowledge and nice ability of coordination is crucial. So are sports games, such as football, basketball, in which team spirit is usually the vital factor for victory.
To sum up, each of the two consciousnesses, competition and cooperation, is of same importance for young people who aspire to be leaders. Without either of them, it would be difficult even impossible for them to achieve their goal.

思路很清晰,开头结尾也都没有问题,但是我个人意见是用4段来写论述还是第一次见太冗长了,还是尽量融合一下吧!
