Viewing from our society, whether such nonmainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits play a vital role by satisfying human needs? As the speaker claims, there are many areas that mainstream science cannot address. In my point of view, these nonmainstream areas of inquiry could not replace of the mainstream science, only serve as ways of peace in spirit.

To begin with, astrology is a kind of primitive statement of astronomy in ancient time. With the poor observation instruments, many so-called “researcher”, such as oracles, made the explanation concerning about the astronomic phenomenon, exposing the relationship between planets and events of human. For instance, they observed universe pointing to the appearing of comets, eclipse, and so forth. Similarly, fortune-telling and psychic and paranormal pursuit are ways that human comprehend some mysterious phenomenon and inquiry of themselves. They serve some unknown areas of people that mainstream science may neglect and cannot explain. For instance, such as the events of UFO, mysterious sixth sense, ability of prediction.   

Admittedly, such nonmainstream areas of inquiry indeed satisfy the need of curiosity of human to fortune and destiny. When people face countless choices in life, they do not know which avenue they should choose, and how to avoid the disadvantaged choice. Thus, they had to seek help from such nonmainstream areas. Because such as psychology, and philosophy cannot give answers to them. Relying on the boring statistics and analysis of science, people just make a fully acknowledgement to their characteristics, but know little about their definite fate. The modern psycholoanalysis(psychoanalysis) have little help to these requests. Thus, some people tend to seek answers from such areas, because of lacking of proper cognition and education.

However, nonmainstream areas of inquiry are not science and cannot play any role in making policy and explaining natural phenomenon.  Ignorance lead to many people accept it and even trust it. In the Medieval of Europe, religious authority and power constrained the thought of all people and did not permit any theories opposing their thoughts. We need look no further than the story of Copernicus, whose heliocentric conjectures are absolutely heresies and excel by current so-called mainstream areas in that time. Fact evidences that Heliocentric conjectures are undoubtedly right. Turning to modern time, if people view astrology as the criteria of behavior, it means a regression of society.

Finally, Nonmainstream thoughts may mislead seriously people to extreme directions and wrong ideas. Some people realize these nonmainstream areas of inquiry as a kind of dependence on spirit. They perhaps give up their occupations and live in day-dream. Moreover, excessively dependence will lead to negative results and make people blindly assume their future. In the end of last century, some people even anticipated destroy of the world, which make people fearful. Factually, it has not any scientific evidences and is completely lies. In short, the only way to change yourself is to rely on the diligence of yourself.

To sum up, i concede that these non-mainstream areas of inquiry can support some peace in the psychological layer in daily life. However, when these avenues of inquiry become the subordinary(alternativeness) of science and knowledge, participants will view reason as the barriers and never any reason. Thus, in my point, the detriment exceed to the payment of inquiry in psychology.

lz的B3, B4, B5都还不错, B2有点太长的感觉, 如果不要B2, 或者和B3和在一起,觉得也可以,而且会觉得紧凑一点.
