TOPIC: ISSUE36 - "The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries

Whether a person’s greatness can be decided only by those who live after them or by their contemporaries? The speaker sticks to the former, which, in my opinion, is not a fair generalization. The conclusion varies in different areas and in different historical period. In art, greatness is often recognizable in its living period. In other area, just like the sciences, greatness need a long time to be tested.

Artistic greatness usually do not require a long time to be recognize ,not matter in music, in visual art, in architecture. The main purpose of art is to give a feeling of aesthetics to people who enjoy it. For art works are almost ones that can be felt in person after accomplishment, it can be judged at face value. There are quite a lot of artists who have been widely admired in the world just around us. I.M.Pei, an artist in architecture, could be a rather representative case. In 1983, Pei was committed to design the entrance of Louvre in Paris. At first, the local residents are extremely dissatisfied with the pyramid shaped design. After the construction was completed, everyone was filled with admiration by the exquisite appearance outside and the powerful and attractive space inside. The Louvre attracts more and more visitors due to the Pei’s outstanding work. Since then, the construction has been the landmark of Paris and as a result, Pei received the Pritzker Architecture Price, the highest price in architecture of the year.

Otherwise, when we come to the realm of science, it is always difficult to appreciate the greatness of individuals immediately. Usually, a theory has to be researched for a long time before it is proved. The science itself, is to explore the unknown field of the world and create new things benefits human being. To test the validity of theories, works and ideas of the great individuals need a quite long period even centuries. At the same time, personal greatness may be buried because of the religion conflict, era background and other factors. For a long time people are informed that the sun travels around the earth. Copernicus, a Polish astronomer in middle ages, advance the theory that the earth and other planets revolve around the sun, against the main theory of  the time. Unfortunately, Copernicus was killed by the Inquisition because of his theory and nobody knew the truth of the universe. Until almost one hundred years later, another scientist Galileo justified the claim of Copernicus with use of a telescope, the world had come to know the truth. From then on, the name of Copernicus has been remembered by the world for his great theory.

To sum up, many individuals of greatness are despised by the speaker. In arts and some other fields, many individuals’ achievements were widely recognized as great during their life time. On the contrary, other great achievements, particularly in science, cannot be judged without the benefit of historical perspective.


提纲：
10. Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive, because it is primarily in cities that a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated.
1．  许多大城市确实不光在经济上迅速发展，而且在文化上有很好的保护，应该大力支持
2．  但是有些主要城市在全球化的进程下丧失了自己的原有的特色，将一些历史文化建筑和设施拆除，严重影响了精神文明建设
3．  文化的保护不光应致力于主要城市，许多乡村也有很多的历史文化遗迹，应该同样重视这些地方的保护和发展

28 Students should memorize facts only after they have studied the ideas, trends, and concepts that help explain those facts. Students who have learned only facts have learned very little.
1．要深刻的理解一样事物，确实应该搞清其来龙去脉，掌握其本质
2．不是所有的学习都要在完全搞清后才memorize，太耗费精力和时间， 切对事实本身的识记和分析就能锻炼人的分析推理能力
3．学习的根本目的是要运用于实践，因此要把重点放在原理和应用能力的掌握上，通过事实的学习来掌握原理提高能力，应该分清最终目标，而事实是千差万别，也无法都记住

1．竞争能使人变的强大，许多领导也是通过竞争获得了他们的高位
2．而合作也是领导人的一大素质之一，懂得发挥集体的力量才是一个成熟的领导人的体现
3．竞争应该在相互合作的大前提下竞争，是一种良性的竞争，是为了共同推动某项事业前进而展开的竞争

142 The well-being of a society is enhanced when many of its people question authority.
1．对权威的质疑能够促使领导者们反思存在的问题，更好的领导民众，发展社会
2．个人对权威的质疑本身就是个体思辨能力的提升，这对社会发展无疑将是一种动力
3．过分的质疑将使社会趋于混乱，无法领导，最后必然导致冲突和对抗

改过一次的给丢掉了，网络太差了，气死了
感觉写得还不错，就是有点小错，如举例时的时态问题等等。提纲有一个你写错题了，没有第46题。还有举例时我不知道需不需要那么详细，下次字打点好吗，看着好别扭
