issue  144"It is the artist, not the critic,* who gives society something of lasting value." *a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.

I strongly agree the speaker’s view that the artist can give society something of lasting value, since it is the artist who creates the works.  However, I also object the speaker’s neglecting the important role of the critic in making the arts lasting. In my opinion, both artists and critics contribute to the priceless of the works.

First of all, we should admit the crucial role of the artist who is the creator of the works. Nearly every famous work we know today took their creator long time to complete-from the term of conceiving to the finalizing of the manuscript. Take Michelangelo for example, he spent 6 years to draw his well-known painting ‘Last Judgment’ for Cappella Sestina. While considering Michelangelo lived in a period of 15th, during that time the average longevity of people even cannot reach 60 years, 6 years’ work for him was really a great job. However, not anybody who use 6 years to achieve a painting can be called master. Good work also needs its creator’s unique inspiration which can strike people’s heart and give an ablution to the person who has an eye on it.
One of my college masters said and I quote it here:” A great work makes people enjoy the beauty inside it. It may take the author 3 years to produce but 3 days to sell.” Therefore, we can come to a conclusion that the artist is the spirit of his works

However, it is the critic who finds the value of the work. For one hand, to some extent, the critic is the first viewer of the art: they are more professional than common people to evaluate the value of the art. Because of their professional views of the arts, people would rather take their opinions for reference than evaluate it themselves. For example, before people decide to buy film tickets, they will probably have a look on the newest films comments written by the critic. For another, the critic has the responsibility to recommend their reader good works since their work is to distinguish good works from bad works. Some artists having ulterior motives may take advantage of advertisement or other person’s assertion to mislead people that they are best artists in the world. At the same time, the critic should tell their reader how to choose the good from the bad.

Furthermore, criticism makes by the critic will drive the artist to perfect his or her works which have been already created and help the artist to produce better works. In the eyes of the artists, the works made by them seem to be perfect; they need persons who can appreciate their works by rational attitude. Form the articles of the critics, they can find the foibles that they can hardly discover themselves and correct them. This is especially important for the fresher who becomes to be artists before long.

In sum, as discussed above, we admire the artist’s contribution to works of lasting value, however, we could not forget the critic’s oblation to urge the arctic to create more perfect works. Because of both, we could enjoy so much successful arts today.

First of all, we should admit the crucial role of the artist【这句话有问题,什么叫艺术家的重要角色?应该是艺术家作为一个艺术品的一个重要部分】 who is the creator of the works. Nearly every famous work we know today took their creator long time to complete-【省去】from the term of conceiving to the finalizing of the manuscript. However, it is the critic who finds the value of the work. For one hand, to some【certain】 extent, the critic is the first viewer of the art: they are more professional than common people to evaluate the value of the art. Because of their professional views of the arts, people would rather take their opinions for reference than【before】 evaluate it themselves. In the eyes of the artists, the works made by them seem to be perfect; they need persons who can appreciate their works by rational attitude. Form the articles of the critics, they can find the foibles that they can hardly discover【过去时态啊】 themselves and correct them. This is especially important for the fresher who becomes to be【用个will be更加简洁明了】 artists before long.

In sum, as discussed above, we admire the artist’s contribution to works of lasting value,【句号】 however, we could not forget the critic’s oblation【contribution】 to urge the arctic to create more perfect works. Because of both, we could enjoy so much successful arts today.
总的来说,行文比较流畅,错误较少。但是最大也是最重要的毛病就是没有紧扣题目,只是说艺术家和批评家对于艺术的作用,而没有重视这些作品的重要性即对于社会的持久作用。
